Guest AllArmyoutdoorsSD
Which do you prefer: Fast flying short mags Powerful punching mags or Conventional cal. rifles that dad used? Me? My favorite rifle at the moment is my custom 303 brit MK3
Rem308
I wouldn't be true to my name if I chose anything other than the .308. No seriously, I really like that caliber...though those new fast shooting varmint and target calibers are tempting.
wtnhunt
For deer, I am hunting with a .270 and it does the job quite nicely. For fun shooting, target practice, and varmints, really like the .223.
Strut10
I would not be the founder of the OTPG if I did not respond by saying "the bigger the better"!! I loves my magnums........I surely do. Conventional calibers get most jobs done sufficiently. But the big boomers are all that AND a Happy Meal. The magnums work just as well as the standard calibers in close.........but they really start to shine when the yardage gets long. Big bullets going fast are wonderful things. doubleA
Doesnt much matter to me, I shoot em....slow, small, fast or tall.... if it goes bang that's a good thang:D
tped
I have em all and it just depends on what I am hunting and where and then what my mood is. I generally narrow it to 2 guns and then it becomes a matter of which one I am shooting best at the time. Have to say for whitetails or larger my hands seem to grab something with "magnum" in the name and probably for no other reason than I have shot them more and those particular guns are more comfortable in my hands. Right now I'm hearing a Ruger Alaskan 375 Ruger calling my name real lound as the next addition.

bearcat
The .300 Remington Ultra Magnum is my favorite caliber right now. I have always been a 30-06 or 7mm Remington Mag. man, but I really love the power of the big .300 RUM. When I shoot my .300 from the bench, the smell of all of that burnt gunpowder just does something to me. I sure hope that this round continues to gain popularity and stays in the market place for many, many years to come.
