Possible new Cabelas store in Ohio

My Dad lives in a town called Brunswick, Ohio. The city has been fighting to get a Cabelas store built there for a few years now, and last I heard, Brunswick was one of the two remaining cities Cabelas was deciding on.

My Dad just emailed me, saying that he heard a brief blip on the news that Brunswick had been selected as the site.

Needless to say, this would be sweet. It would be about a 40 minute drive from my house, about 5 minutes from my Dad's and I can only imagine how many times I'll have to stop in after visiting my Dad.:D Not to mention, this is going to really bring in a lot of restaurants, hotels, and other larger retailers...I can here my Dad's property value increasing as I type this.:D

btw- Brunswick is about 30 minutes south of Cleveland, and about an hour and a half north of Columbus.

All I know for sure is that Brunswick was still in the mix after Cabelas narrowed the site down to five cities, and it was still in the hunt after they were down to only two areas.

Nothing is confirmed yet, so there's a chance Brunswick won't get it...but the rumor is it's a done deal.

We've been hearing that one is going in near Mansfield and our own Sunbury. Did you see that brand new mega driveway right as you exit I-71 on 36/37? Nobody I've talked to is exactly sure what's going in over there, but something big must be. It's a mile long, 4 lane driveway going to nowhere.

There has been talk about the Amphitheatre moving north as well. Maybe the 4 lane path to nowhere is part of that? I do know that that road does connect into North Galena Road and Wilson Road - PGA golfer John Cook just opened North Star Golf Resort up there. A course like that with a name attached to it like that will mean huge residential houses going in soon.

I like to look at the Cabelas / Bass Pro catalogs, but I'd rather buy locally in a smaller, more personal store. JMO.

Seems that would be not all that far from the Wheeling location, best I can remember driving through a few years ago Wheeling WV was only a couple hours from Columbus. Surprising that they would put a store that close to an existing store when there are other areas where they have no stores where there is a good market for them.

I had the same thought. There's also one in Dundee, Michigan which will be even closer, probably only 2 hours. I'd guess Brunswick is about 4 hours from Wheeling, maybe 3.5.

I've heard the rumor and today it was in the paper. Nothing is for sure yet it said. I think it said it would be a smaller store, 125,000 - 150,000 Sqaure feet, if that's what you call small. I can't believe they would put one there though like already said, right in between MI and WV. I also heard rumor BassPro was thinking about a store there.

I heard that rumor too Tom. The guy who teaches next to me (Ben's old coach) told me that. His wife used to be on the chamber of commerce in Delaware.

BTW--Have you been out on 36/37 near that Kroger distribution center lately? Wow, you wouldn't believe the earth moving they're doing there. Heard a Meijer and Target are going in over there.

I can get to Wheeling in about 2.5 hours, and Dundee about the same, so quick math tells me Columbus is pert near in the middle of those two.

I like the bigger stores for the prices, but like Tom said, the small shops are much more personal.

Here is a question.

Are they spreading there stores out in so many directions its and close together it will hurt them? I mean it has happened to other stores. I understand the whole making money thing and having stores everywhere but where your talking as said its close to Wheeling. If you ask me one or the other would be losing on that deal.

Why wouldn't they go more towards the Midwest?
