Which Muzzleloader?

Recommended Posts

u know i just bought a new T.C. encore pro hunter and i love it....i know i looked at several used T.C. encore's for that price range and i think if u ask the people who have them they will tell u that they are an amazing gun. I saved all summer to buy the pro hunter and the main reason i bought an encore was because i'm in college and i like the cost effectiveness of just having to buy a new barrel and i got a new gun. but i have shot the T.C. omega and they are great too. but i would look for a Omega or an encore even used if ya got to. I have a cheap muzzleloader before i bought my t.c. and there is a huge difference.

I'd get an Omega. Why go cheap on the gun when your going to love shooting ML and be stuck with a gun you maybe don't like, then you'll go buy another one and you'll be farther behind in the long run. Pay a few extra bucks and get yourself a nice looking Omega. Those Z5 Omega's will do the trick, but I just didn't like the look of an all black gun

This model for $329 at midway has a syn stock and stainless barrel. If I am not mistaken the one wal mart carries here is an identical gun with the exception that the stock is syn camo'd. Next time I get in to wal mart I will check the price, I am pretty sure it is under $350.

Nothing wrong with an all black gun either, that is all about opinions and personal preferences. The black diamond I hunt with has killed a few deer, it is all black barrel and scope included. Rifle hunt with a model 700 that has killed probably close to 30 deer, all black.

For the money and the switch barrel capability it is kind of hard to beat the NEF in the Ultra line. The Ultra line will accept nearly all of the rifle barrels and the black powder barrels. The Ultra receiver is made from a higher grade of steel than the receiver used for the black powder barrel. For about $250.00 you can buy a rifle setup and then send the receiver to NEF and have a black powder barrel fitted for about $80.00.

The Encore I purchased about ten years ago wouldn't hit the proverbial broad side of a barn at 100 yards. After spending a few hundred dollars on powder, different bullets, and different 209 primers I was still having problems with accuracy. Gun work came next and with another couple of hundred dollars I have finally made my rifle a shooter.

My son-in-law wanted to go hunting with me so I bought him a NEF black powder break open to check them out. With open sights he can keep three shots in less than a four inch group at 100 yards. It doens't do worth a darn for me as I need a scope but he loves it. Four deer in three years isn't bad. It's too bad I didn't buy the gun as a rifle with the better receiver so I could add barrels.

In order to make my buddies Omega shoot he had to have the QLA removed and the barrel recrowned by a competant gunsmith as I had to do.

Some of the other replys also touted the NEF line.
