cinch314
OK when I see a deer I get really excited, but when I make a good kill, I really get excited. I stand up and start dancing and this song runs through my head. It goes like this "duh duh duh another one bites the dust, duh duh duh another one bites the dust" and on and on. I was just wondering if yall get that excited and stuff. What things do yall do after yall make a kill?

wtnhunt
Usually immediately following my shot, whatever it be with, I get the overwhelming shakes that are difficult to control, and I will close my eyes a minute and give thanks. Depending on the situation if what I shot was all I saw and I do not think there is anything else around, I may let out a "YES", but not too loud. The sitting and waiting after a shot with the shakes especially when it is cold is what always seems to get me.
Leo
Just like everyone, my nerves light up and heartrate increases as soon as I spot a shooter. Then I get myself as calm and businesslike as possible to take the shot. I maintain this iceman attitude until I actually recover the animal then I'll allow myself some celebration. Because honestly until I lay my hands on my prize, I don't consider I've been successful. Getting too excited and into the moment can really mess up my shot. And being too excited and enthusiastic on a bloodtrail can really make it hard to find the animal. This is especially crucial bowhunting where generally following up your kill is as critical as the shot itself.
OJR
My Reactions All I do is to make sure I have done my part with a clean one shot kill! I will wait for a few minutes and then proceed with the job at hand! I guess I have shot too many critters to get excited anymore! That is one of the reasons I have quit hunting! The "fire" just isn't there anymore!
The Kid
i get excited and do the fist pump but then i take the time to thank the man up stairs for allowing me to take such a wonderful animal!!

I usually bow my head, close my eyes, and say "Thank you Lord" under my breath, only because I don't want to break the silence. If I have buddies close by, I save our high-fives, and handshakes, for when I find the deer (if it didn't fall in view), and excitedly tell the story. I agree though. If I stopped being excited about it every single time, I'd have to give it up, and buy beef

Shawn
i call my father, tell him what i got and he usually comes right over. but in my 9th season hunting, we've had 5 days when we both get deer. so its a great feeling, and we both usaully end it saying " the Dasecke boys strike again"
elkoholic
Strangely enough, after the kill, most of the excitement fades away as the task now at hand takes precedence. Most of the rapid heart beat and breathing takes place at the first sound or sight of the animal approaching. Once I have made the decision to shoot the focus goes to completing the shot and my only expectation is success at this point. There is then a burst of excitement after the shot with maybe a little fist pumping thrown in. After 40+ years of hunting I have perhaps become a wee bit jaded when walking up to a kill and the taking of a life has a lot more meaning. My way of thinking is, that the day I dont get excited by just seeing a deer is the day Im gonna quit hunting. I dont see that happening any time soon. That's right if you don't get that rush it's not worth it no more. I've done many things after tagging a big one. Basically just your typical "I just killed a big buck" treestand celebration. indianaboy
When I see a buck that I know for sure I am going to shoot I put all focus behind the shoulder. Breath in through nose out through mouth. The entire time I dont look at the rack. Then I make the shot. After the shot is when I lose it. I start the shakes and thanking god. Throw my hands in the air. I have to get everything I have in my hands hung up because I am shaking so bad I cant hardly hold it. Then I have to get set myself down before I fall and have to test out my safety harness. Nothing at all like the rush of a kill!!
