Kind of a nasty morning here, cold and still very wet from all the rain yesterday. On the way taking the kids to school after leaving the middle school we saw a woman in a van sitting in a curve, just off the road. She was actually sitting in a pretty bad spot and was not all the way off the road, back end of the van was still about a foot over on the road. Was pretty apparent to me that she was stuck, the passenger side front wheel was buried, and the other was barely on gravel on the shoulder. I could not stop on the way, traffic made it impossible and there was nowhere to pull off on that side of the road anyways.

Figured I would detour on my way back after dropping off my 6 year old and come back by and offer to pull her out if she was still there, knowing she was stuck. So as I come back through about 10 minutes later I see she is still there. I pull up a good ways and park where it is relatively flat and walk back to her van. Her engine is running and she is sitting there, think she had some kids in the van too. I asked her if she needed pulled out and she says NO that she thinks she can back out(if we had one, a scratching my head smilie would go here:rolleyes:). I told her it looks like you are stuck, and she tells me she has someone on the way with gas:confused:, remember her van is running:confused::eek:.

OK, so I ask her if she wants me to pull her up to a safer spot just a short ways up past the intersection where there are some driveways, by this time there is a line of cars on the road where they had slowed down:(, she again says she has someone on the way with gas. I said OK, just was going to offer, and I asked her if they would be able to get her unstuck if she was stuck. I was willing to stick around a few minutes even though my 2 year old was a bit cranky, but she said she would be able to back out since that was what a cop that stopped by earlier had told her:confused:, and she went on to tell me she had intentionally pulled over to get off the road and got over further than she had planned.

Oh well, that was a first for me, have never had anyone I stopped to help refuse the offer before.

That is just too weird.

Cop stopped earlier and said she could just back out

Time lapsed and she's still there:confused:

Engine running ....out of gas

Why was she still there ?:rolleyes:

You don't have to answer that question .

valiant effort though William :D

Really made no sense to me and I was there:eek::(.

Dont know for sure Steve, but kind of figured from what she said that maybe her van was cutting out on her or maybe some other sort of mechanical problem so she attempted to pull off the road and left it running, but whether she knew it or wanted to admit it or not, she was very much stuck. She did say it would not go, ummm yeah, wonder why, the front wheel on the passenger side was buried, and she was sitting on a bit of a slope too.

Just so happend that I have a chain and a strap in the back of the truck. I would have happily pulled her a ways up the road out of the curve where it was at least safer, but she seemed to be fine with sitting there. I was not going to twist her arm, I just hope there was not an accident there. My truck, which does have a limited slip rear end, slipped a bit as I was pulling out back onto the road, no way she was backing up out of the spot she was in whether the cop told her she could or not.

Three true stories....I usually stop for everyone I can....its just my nature....last spring, pouring a cold rain on me, I stopped to help a young lady in a pickup with an obvious flat tire......I pulled up, and she looked at me at her door, smiled, and continued for the next 7 minutes, yes, I had time to look at my watch, to talk and laugh on the phone, like I was an inconvience, and was going to change her tire, and get back to my meaningless life......ugggg....I left her there!!!!.....second interesting stop, well...kinda embarrassing.....I stopped at a car with its flashers on, engine overheating, apparently, "I" was in the wrong spot as well again, as a young mother....decided that she needed to breastfeed on the busiest highway in Illinois.....causing her van to overheat......she was covered, and very polite, and I loaned her my cellphone to call her very nice husband, who later had the van towed....first child, great people........sorry, third one you will love buddy......I helped an elderly woman years ago, in a snowstorm with a flat tire, down to the rim flat...and I had an old straight bar jack on her bumper....well, she tried to help, God Bless her, and she hit the release while my hand was under the tire rim....you guessed it.....I had to sit there until she waved someone down to jack the car back up on my crushed three fingers......I helped that person finish changing the tire for her before I seeked medical attention...........Ill always continue to stop and help people, those are the ones that really stand out in my memory though.....I stop because it may be my wife on the road somewhere someday...and I hope to the Lord a good person like you stops for her buddy.......al

Really weird William. Sounds to me like she didn't trust you, and she was just giving you a bunch of stories.

Really dont think was the case Chris, but hey who knows. Think she was probably nervous as would be anyone who was having troubles, but think she did not realize how dangerous the spot she was sitting in was, nor did she realize she was stuck.

As I was pulling out back onto the road and driving off, I did see another person stop in a truck beside her, the cars were slowed almost to a stop right there, dont know if that was the person she had called or not.

As I passed back by the middle school, the cop that sits there took off in that direction with his lights still on too. Oh well, whatever her reasons, I tried to do what I thought was right.

Were you wearing your mass murderer mask? lol

She was probably just freaking out that a stranger stopped and was at her car. My wife would be like that, no matter how good your intentions.

With all the freaks out there, I kinda understand.
