Cheap Decoy

Toddyboman,

Decoys can vary from the cheap homemade ones to the nice, more expensive electronic ones like the Jack-In-The-Box by Foxpro. Personally I use a turkey feather attached to a 3/8ths dall rod with about a foot of 6lb fishing line, or a squirrel tail that is stapled directly to the dall rod. I stake it out about 50 or so yards and let the wind do the rest. Its just enough to catch their attention and thats all your really after. I don't have any pics of my decoy set up, but could probably take a few if needed.

If you just attach the turkey feather directly to the dowl rod, then you don't get much movement out of it. Attach one end of the fishing line to the dowl rod and the other to the feather and it will have alot more action to it. I tried using super glue to attach the string to the end of the feather and that didn't work very well. A 5 minute epoxy worked real well, or you can just tape them together.

I must give credit where credit is due on this..........................Mr. Gary Robinson, owner of Burnham Brothers Game Calls told me how to make this cheap little decoy. If you get a chance to pick up his video "Catastrophic" you will see this type of decoy used many times. Its an awesome video that is strictly about calling bobcats during the day.
