Rem308
That's a beautiful handgun...can't wait to hear how it shoots for you. Good luck with that. Are the extra rings to compensate for the recoil of the larger caliber?
hangunnr
Now wait one minute..... You told me you had some problems with hard kickers. What do you think you'll be in for with a 500 Smith? Even with the brake this is gonna come back hard. I'm eagerly awaiting a shooting report....LMAO... hangunnr
VTbowman
Yes the 500 demands a 3rd if not 4th ring to help with the recoil. Its been known to kill scopes quickly... Charlie-I am counting on the brake to brake well. LOL However I know there are some choices of ammo out there to fit my bill. Not everything needs a 700g pill outa one of these bad boys... The gun in the pic is not going to be mine completely. I am buying the bbl, base, grip and forend for $625 shipped. I have a line on a SS frame for another $275 shipped. Scope will be a 2.5-8x32 Leupold ($460) with as many rings as I can fit on it. LOL It will not be cheap by any standard... BTW, This is my "getting a 3rd divorce and selling my house" present for myself.

Hoosierbuck
I have the Pro-Hunter Kitahdin .500 RIFLE and it kicks like a mule...hang on bud! Mine is shooting the 400 grain Win. Platinum Tip hollowpoints really well. Cabela's has HSM rounds that are loaded down and yield good brass for reloading at 1/2 the cost of other rounds. Read the reviews at Midway or Cabelas' on the different rounds for the .500. Eventually I assume you will be handloading? HB
stevebeilgard
i don't think i'm man enough to pull the trigger on that thing... lol
VTbowman
I admit I am bit nervous to let the 1st one fly but I do plan to start out with lower grain ammo to begin with and work up from there, once I am use to shooting the beast... Should make a pretty good hole in these VT deer. LOL
