wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. Have never hunted with a 7mm 08, but have heard it is effective.
7th
I got a M-70 classic FW 7MM-08 Rem, for mommy when we got my evil twin home 9 years ago. Sense then I have killed 19 deer with it and lost 1, all 1 shots and the 19 dropped with in sight of ware I shot them. I reload so I am pushing a Hornady 120 gr HP at just under 3,000 fps. This load has passed through all the deer that I got and with the exceeption of 3 shoulder shots, the rest was in the ribs. The one I lost: was about 140 yds away, 300 ft below me and going up a bank away from me, I thought I would bake its back and put the cross hairs between its shoulders blaids. I was off hand and think I pulled it, gun went off, buck flipped back words and slide's about 50' down the bank and did not move. About 30 sec after watching it through the scope, did not see anything moving, I get up and at the same time, it got up and was gone??? I found what makes me beleave that I hit it on the outside of the shoulder blade and the bullet followed it down and outside the ribs??? So once again, I must say that the gun/bullet did not let me down, I just did not place it ware I was wanting too. btw, this same load is great on yote's also... I think I see a new Tikka T-3 7MM-08 in my safe soon also...
7th
Forgot, it is supper lite on recoil and the only gun othere then the .257 Rob that I have ever seen the bullet hit a deer or yote in the scope!!! I would say that about 13 of the 20 deer I hit with it I have seen the bullet hit (the one I lost was one and that helped me with the thought about the shoulder blade). When you think of the 7MM-08 Rem, think of what you would use a .270 Win or .280 Rem for and then use the 7MM-08 Rem there and you have a good job, with a li'l less recoil. One last thing, with the right bullets (this again helps in reloading) I would not think again about letting mommy or one of the boys use it for moose or elk. I am also talking 250 yds with 160 gr bullets.

Rem308
I had to really talk myself out of a 7mm-08 this past weekend at the gunstore. This one happened to be in a Savage, and the price was really tempting...I am looking for a second rifle to have setup and occasionally deer hunt with. This season my uncle dropped his deer rifle and messed up his scope, got me thinking about what I would do if the same thing happened, and I'd like to have a 2nd rifle with me at hunting camp just in case. LETMGROW
I am becoming a fan for the 7mm-08 myself. I bought my wife a Rem. Mountain rifle with detachable mag last year and I was really impressed with how well it shoots. This is truly a tack driver. With Winchester 140 gr. Ballistic Silvertip ammo it has proven to be a deer killer. My daughter won a Savage package gun this fall in 7mm-08. Again I was impressed. Although the Savage sells for quite a lot less than the Remington it shoots nearly as well. I have never taken Savage accuracy lightly. Nearly every Savage I have seen shot was very accurate and trouble free. For a second gun you certainly couldn't go wrong with the Savage. Or for that matter, it could be considered a good first choice.
Guest alabamahen
I just got a Browning BLR Lightweight, 7mm-08, pistol grip, a week ago and put a leupold VX L scope on it. I have shot two deer with it this week, one in the neck and the other was a double lung shot. It is great! My only question on it is trying to find a hammer extender for it. I started hunting with a Browning BLR model 81 243 and then with a Steyer bolt action 270. So far I love this one. A friend of mine who has 4 boys says a 7mm-08 is a girly gun. I called him today and told him I had named my "girly gun" G.G. and no one should mess with her.
