JasonLester
With all the videos with giant deer being killed it makes me wonder what everyone's personal definition of a monster buck is. 130, 140, 150 .... ???? Just wondering.
Ravin R10 man
anything bigger than my biggest one..so for me over a 164 inch
wtnhunt
Think it is all relative to where you hunt and what comes from that area. Around here, a monster in my opinion would be anything above a 120 class deer.
Guest adrenaline_junky
Well I just recently killed a good 165 buck but I consider a good monster to be about 150 or bigger.

Texan_Til_I_Die
Think it is all relative to where you hunt and what comes from that area. Yep. In general, I'd put it around 160 or so for whitetails and mulies. But if I'm hunting coues or blacktails, that's going to change a bunch. JasonLester
good replies. I know for me the 153 I killed this year is a real monster for me. I've only had a couple opertunities at a buck better than 130-140 so 150's is BIG here. I know there are bigger out there but to me he's a monster. Of course I think 120-130 bucks are awsome bucks as well. I too think it depends on the area you hunt and what you've seen before. I took a kid out and his ideas of a monster are probably different than mine. Since he's never killed a buck before a 90-100 inch buck would be a monster for him. Don't take me wrong I'm just wondering what everyone thinks a realy big buck is. Not to take anything away from any other buck. In fact I feel people should be very proud of the animals they take. I know what goes into everyone. And you should be proud regardless of the antler size.
PineyBrake
It all depends on the hunter and the land that the hunter gets to hunt on. I have friends who have land that I hunt that I really dont think anyone will ever kill a 120 and a 14 - 16 inch 8 point is a great deer. I also have friends who have land that is larger and better managed that dont allow anything under 140 to be taken. I personally consider a monster anything over prob 120 130 but I have also seen deer in the wild that score in the 160s. Basically, I think "monster" varies by hunter. If someone thinks they killed a monster in their opinion, then I agree with them!
buckee
To me, a monster is whatever the biggest blacktail bucks or buck is on whichever property I happen to be hunting.
Guest csod08
Well a monster for me is the next buck a shoot since it will be my first ever. Six years of hunting without a buck. I can't wait to get one.
M00N
1. A trophy deer to me is any deer that I harvest. No matter how small or big, antlered or antleress, male or female, etc. 2. A wallhanger deer to me is anything with a reasonable spread, 3x3 or better, reasonable tine length, and reasonable antler mass. An exception though is albino, melanistic, or piebald deer are always wallhangers despite antler size, age, or gender. 3. A monster buck to me is anything that qualifies as a wallhanger and has one, some, or all of these qualities; 5x5 or better, has a spread over 20", has very nice mass, or makes the P&Y/B&C minimum. PA_Spike_King
I agree with MOON, back in the 80's when I was a kid I used to kill spikes and I killed meny, but I'm a meat hunter not a horn hunter, but since the antler restrictions here in PA I've killed 2 8points that look great on the wall but will never make the books. I am happy with any deer big or small, head gear or no head gear.
HOYTnMUZZYboy
Any animal I harvest is a trophy. Rather it be a 160class whitetail to a nice plump doe. I have the utmost respect for the whitetail deer, rather it be a mature buck or a young fawn. When I out smart and harvest such a keen and crafty timberghost it's more of the thrill and natural high. DON'T get me wrong harvesting a mature buck is awesome and rewarding. I guess like the old saying goes, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." elkoholic
It is funny how many terms we use to describe a big buck. A buck with a 125" rack that weighs 200+ lbs is a real stud. A 140" might be a brute. A monster....200+ inches of antler and well over 200 lbs would do it for me.
bonehuntr
I would say 160 to Boone or bigger!
JasonLester
It is funny how many terms we use to describe a big buck. That was kind of my point in starting this thread. Every deer I kill is a trophy to me. I actually think people get a bit down on themselves for taking deer that don't qualify as a "Monster" like they see on hunting shows. Most of my deer have been does. My buddy killed a realy nice 10 point that is tall and very pretty. A good good buck. When I first looked at it I naturaly compared it to mine. I killed an exceptional buck (I was just lucky) I would consider both of these bucks and many others wall hangers. I think the term Monster is one I define as a deer dreams are made of. The boy I took would probably think a 75 inch 6 or 8 point to be a monster buck. To me its a buck of a life time or one you've dreamed about but just never got... or one you hunted for a long time. I have to admit I never saw the deer I took this year until that day. I've dreamed of a big buck for many years. I was lucky and blessed enough to take him this year. To me he's my dream buck or my monster buck. He's the one in my Avatar and signature pics BTW.
wtnhunt
I think the term Monster is one I define as a deer dreams are made of. With that being said, I guess a person could have two definitions of a monster. Really is all a matter of opinion and a dream deer and a monster are not the same to me really, although I have dreamt many times of monsters. For me realistically I think of a monster for this area being an achievable buck, not something I will never see, that was why I said a 120 class or better deer. A deer of my dreams type monster you mention kind of changes the perspective a bit and would class a monster("one dreams are made of")as being a 150 class deer. Randyman
Because i live in Illinois and i don't hunt for antler, it is going to take something north of 150 before i would put it on the wall.
brownie65
120 - 140 very nice buck 140-150 bruiser buck 150 - 170 whopper buck 170 & up Monster Buck
nemodeerhuntersneighbor
Not really a certain score. For me it's any buck that makes me say wow when I see it. A good example would be an 8 pt that is 20" wide and 11" pts. and score about 150" would be a monster. But a narrow 12pt with good mass and average tines that scored about the same wouldn't be. So I think it's any buck that has certain characteristics that when you see him on the hoof you say "wow"
