I just got my hands on my grandpa's old 30-30 about made in 1949 old. Anyways its an old winchester model 94 lever action top ejecting. My question is, is there any way I could put a red dot sight or something like that on there.

Scoping a 94 has always been a problem becuase of the top ejection. Try a B-Square mount, thats what I would do.

Born2Hunt hit the nail squarely on the head. Don't try to scope your '94. Any scope mount you try to use will require drilling the receiver. With the top eject the scope will have to be mounted to the side of the action. This was common practice a few years back but would be a shame to do today.

Follow B2H's advice and admire a piece of by-gone history.

NOOOO! Don't touch Gramps gun!

Keep it original...just like Gramps had it:)

Most mounts if they do not have to be drilled, they will have to clamp some way, and even that; will leave some kind of irreparable mark on the receiver.

Thats always been the problem with the 94. Get Marlin for a scoped lever gun. They are side ejectors.

Put it in your gun rack and admire it. If you want a gun to hunt with find a different one. The 30-30 is a great gun but a pre 64 winchester that was your grandfathers should be a keep sake.

BINGO!!! Clean it up and oil her good, and stick it in the safe!!! Or, just shoot iron sights only! My father has one, I believe at one time it had the side mounted scope mount.

ok thanks guys, I am going to leave as is, I didnt realize how valuable this gun is. I am not going to sell it not, mainly because it was my grandpa's. I am not going to do anything to it, well except maybe oil it up good.

ok my next question. Is there any trick to loading it, Like I can only seem to get 2 or 3 rounds in the tube, After that I can't seem to get the loading cover to go down far enough to put more cartridges in?

There should be a small screw at the end of the mag tube. Unscrew that( make sure you use the RIGHT screwdriver, a hollow ground one or the slots will chip on the screw:() and the cap will come out that holds the spring and mag follower. Make sure its clean in there, oil it, not heavy; and it should retract OK after that. It should take at least 5 in the tube.

Thats a special gun take care of it.:)

Does the mag. tube go the full length of the barrel? I have seen some shorter mag. tubes on older '94's.

I from what I can see the cartridge rim is catching the loading gate. Is there any way to fix that, or do I just need to deal with it. The magazine goes the whole length of the barrel.
