DSGB
I went to go sit in my climber on Saturday and found something that had me PO'd, to say the least. Daggum squirrells chewed up my stand! It was only there a week. They chewed part of the cover off the seat and pulled some of the padding out. They chewed through the strap that keeps the seat closed once it's folded up. They also chewed about 3/4 of the way through the strap that holds your feet when climbing - in four different places! I was so mad, if I woulda seen a squirrel, I probably woulda shot him with my .270. That woulda taught 'em a lesson! It's a Cabelas Cable Elite SS climber and has a seat similar to the ones on Summit climbers. If someone knows where I can find replacement parts, let me know. I searched Cabelas site, but no luck. Maybe there's some info with my paperwork at home. I know where I'll be squirrel huntin' once deer season is over!
hutchies
Re: Darn Tree Rats The other thing I hate is thinking you have a heard of deer coming up behind you only to find out that it is a squirrel. I too will be clearing out some tree rats soon.

dogdoc
Re: Darn Tree Rats go to a pet store and buy a bottle of bitter apple spray--next time you leave the stand out after you hunt spray it down with the bitter apple. that will keep those dang tree rats from chewing on it in the future. todd

Guest bowhunter56
Re: Darn Tree Rats Happened to me last year, bought a new summit climber, that had an inflatable seat, well they chewed right through the seat cover and bladder, they have nothing better in the woods to do , than go around and chew up tree stands, it's the same bunch that play in the middle of the street or road, and get hit by cars. DSGB
Re: Darn Tree Rats I called Cabelas last night and they're shipping the parts. The only problem is, they couldn't give me a price. The lady on the phone asked how much I was willing to pay. I told her Summit sells a similar seat for about $35, but their stands also cost about $80-$100 more than mine, and the strap shouldn't be more than a few bucks. She said they'd call with a price before shipping the items. Then I told her I guess it really doesn't matter, because who else am I gonna get them from? I guess I'll find out in a day or two when they call.
wtnhunt
Re: Darn Tree Rats Dont know about the straps, but bet you could probably make a seat cover yourself or have someone you know with a sewing machine make one for you for little of nothing. Might check a hobby store or wal marts sewing section. I had looked at getting one of those climbers once before, how do you like the cabelas climber? David_218
Re: Darn Tree Rats Why is it that during Squirrel Season, the Deer pester you to death, then when Deer Season Comes in the Squirrels Pester you to death. A Hunting Friend of mine had some Squirrel damage done to his ladder stand once.
DSGB
Re: Darn Tree Rats wtnhunt, I really like it a lot. The seat is very comfortable, I can sit in it for a while before having to adjust my position. It packs together easily and goes on the tree quickly and quietly - not completely quiet, but what stand is? It's heavier than some climbers I've seen, but I can carry it in a lot further than I can drag a deer out! The only problem I've had, besides rodents LOL, is that you have to get the bottom piece low enough to allow room to place your feet on the foot rest. If you get them too close together, your knees will hit the front bar when you try to put them on the foot rest.
waterfowler_gal
Re: Darn Tree Rats That picture above of the tree-stand seat looks like an adult car seat.... LOL Guess I would have to sit in one to appeciate it....
