98chevy
I like the book water dogs and they now have a dvd also. It has been used to train 2 of our labs. Then we sent one lab off to get trained which turned out great also. Then my lab I have now is hopeless but shes the best lap dog i have ever seen so I want get rit of her. I looked at abunch of diffrent ways and water dogs was my favorite. Even though force fetching has really caught my attention and will be the way i train my next lab to see how diffrent it is. Ive only heard good things about this type of training. Dogdoc should chime in. his dog is trained this way I beleive. Also you cant start working it to soon. Intraduce it feather now and the basic like NO and its name sit stay praise when it bring stuff to you etc. good luck
Guest realtrhunter
I have used a book called the 10 minute retriever and liked it. I would also check out the UKC hunting retriever club lots of good people and help that you will need. I am also training a pup right now feel free if you got any questions I will try to help where I can. I would start with obedience, E-collar then force fetch. Also if you can try to find a pinch collar that is leather with dull brass studs on the inside, you will keep from possibly hurting a dogs throat than with a chain pinch collar. Guest realtrhunter
Oh yea forgot. Dont try to rush your training. You will only get mad b/c the dog isnt going as fast as you want and the dog will quite on you.
dogdoc
you should get a lot of training done by the time you leave--this is my favorite training guide. Check out the Smartworks Basic package: http://www.rushcreekpress.com/
