Tominator
Beans in WV, I'd say you could get them in around early May, but might want to hold off till mid to late May. These other guys might be able to tell you better about soil tests. I never test mine. I just till in manure every year and my plants do fine. I would think you'd want to get it done soon in case you need to lime your plot. Lime will take a while to work into the soil and correct your ph level. Ravin R10 man
Id take a soil test asap.. Im thinking you will be planting by march? get in touch with the local soil conservation agency. you will also need to lime.. Plant a high protein forage such as clover/ trefoil/ alfalfa and provide a good 2 to 1 mineral right now, the best results is to put about 6 to 8 ounces of mineral on top of corn everyday..unbeleivable results!! wtnhunt
Would get your soil test done soon as you can. Might get in touch with soybean man here on these forums and ask him about the earliest planting of soybeans in your area if that is what you are going to plant. Here I usually shoot for getting my spring plots in by the beginning of May, does not always work out that way though. I save my perennial plantings for fall, been really pleased with the hamann farms grower mix. Might give the clover/trefoil or something similar some consideration for a fall planting if you are interested in providing nutrition. Trefoil has a high protein content and is more palatable to deer than alfalfa.
