codman
Hey all im new to food plots and im in the beginning ofour winter in CT . I would like to start a perennial plot in out field my parents own, i'd like to do about a 1/4 acre or so to start. I would like to know what good brands are out i've read reviews on Biologic New Zealand Mix and sounds good. I would start in spring for planting. I just want all your opinions as far as how to go bout's creating a nice plot. We live on 21 acres and have decent deer now. Thank you Dan
MUDRUNNER
Welcome to the forums! This is a great place to get info for food plots.I put my first fall plot in this year, and with the help of the guys here it turned out great! From what I understand most guys like to plant perennial plots in the fall so they don't have as much weed competition.I may try a little 1/4 acre of ladino clover and chickory just to see what happens, if I can spray twice before I plant. As for Biologic,I think they make good stuff, but it seems a few dollars more than some of the other brands.Good luck with whatever you decide, and we like to see plenty of plot pics on here. wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. Personally not a fan of biologic stuff, think it is way over rated. If you are wanting to go with a commercial product check out penningtons lines of clovers and clover and rye supreme. A fall planting of the clover and rye supreme will do well as an almost instant draw. If you are willing to try something different would encourage giving one of hamann farms clover/trefoil blends a try, here is a link http://www.hamannfarms.com/. Have been using the grower blend from hamann farms and have had really good results. Chickory makes a good perennial as well, and like to add in some with my fall plantings with whatever I plant. PotashRLS
I am very partial to Whitetail Institute's brand of seeds. We have planted their Clover, Alfa-Rack Plus, Chickory Plus, No-Plow, Winter Greens, Secret Spot and Pure Attraction. All are excellent and are genetically engineered for ruminent nutrition and palatabillity. Check them out, you won't be sorry. You get what you pay for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
