unethical hunters

My hunting club has a member that will purposely cut buck rubs down so that other members will not see the buck sign. In my opinion this is very stupid and unethical; what does the rest of the hunting world think and what would your club do in this situation.

well i dont belong to a club if i was in that club i would try to get him kicked out, cause that aint right. but what would the deer think of that? would not care or not come to that area any more?

I agree 100 percent

I must a agree not only is that wrong its just morally not right.I can't imagine people like that calling themselves hunters. I ran into a couple of situations like that myself this season , my soon to be father inlaw just got his hunting cabin with land this season we either had that going on or we had people purposly seeing deer and knowing where we were hunting and shooting off guns just to scare them off from us. Come on we are all out there for the same reason lets just all get along.

Gone Gone, Bye Bye ....no discussion :(:rolleyes: A club has no room for a guy like that.

I had that happen to be once, but in the wild not on club land.

I found this one little dirt rd up in the mountains, that had rubs everywhere, along the side of the road. I came back a few days later, only to find that some idiot had cut them all down, so he could have the place to himself.

I just kinda laughed to myself, because of the selfish idiot mentality behind it.:rolleyes:

I could be wrong but wouldnt that kinda screw up the area for hunting?I know Ive watched bucks hit the same rubs time after time in some cases and Id have to think if they came back and there were just stumps where the rubs were it would be kind of self defeating for the guy cutting them down after a period of time:rolleyes:.

Guys like that are the reason I left the club I was in. To much "me, me me". I spent more time playing politics than I did hunting.

Heck turn the tables on him. Find an area he likes to frequent and get together 4 or 5 guys with old shed antlers and go to work on every other tree on the place. Make him spend more time cutting trees than he will hunting! :D

I agree Steve, but think the club as a group needs to make that decision and let the guy know why.
Oh for sure William.;) I'm pretty sure one guy couldn't kick out another member without holding a meeting and having a vote, anyway. He definitely should be inform as to why he's going "bye, bye", by the whole club. :D

I personally don't consider it to be unethical (provided the landowner doesn't mind) but it is pretty silly. A lot of bigger rubs on our place, especially cedar trees are hit just about every year. You cut all those down and there aren't anymore around for those bucks to rub. Sure, they'll find other trees to rub but where does the cutting end? You ought to tell him in front of a bunch of the other members "I saw where you cut down those big buck rubs at ____ and ____and___", so everyone around would know exactly where they were. Afterwards ask him not to cut down anymore trees for that purpose. If he has a problem with that request, tell him from now on you'll email every member the exact location of the rub trees he cuts down.

If he's doing that I would have to assume he's also very possessive about areas he hunts. Obviously I've had to deal with this sort of silly junk before. If he's one of those kind of selfish hunters that trys to intimidate other members from hunting in "his" so called areas I'd give him the boot. In a hunting club situation, you need all the members $ to make the club happen. I have to remind some of our members of that fact every year. No member should have the right to claim areas for himself, whatever method he choose to try to claim an area.

Welcome to the forum. ;)
