buckshot
Something happened to me yesterday and I wanted to share it with you all. I was in the woods cutting down trees for next years firewood. There was one tree in particular that I have been wanting to cut down for a number of years now.It was a large beech tree that had a large maple that was parcially uprooted and leaninging against the beech tree.I knew this was very dangerous situation and gave it alot of thought. First I notched the beech tree and cut the backside to the point where I thought there wasn't much holding it up.I then cut the base of the maple hoping the weight of the tree would take down the beech. It didn't work. After looking things over very carefully I noticed when I cut the back of the beech ,I had cut at an angle and cut under the notch on one side by several inches.I tried using a wedge and that didn't work.I was getting tired and impatient and decided to make a new cut above the original cut.I then put the wedge in the new cut.I had an escape route all cleared of debris so when the tree started to fall I woudn't trip and fall. A couple of hits on the wedge with the sledge hammer and the tree started to lean.I should have got out of there then but I hit it one more time. Then the tree fell, and it fell real fast.Something I didn't think about, with the weight of the other tree leaning on it went down real fast. Instead of running to the side that I had cleared I tried to run in the opposite direction. With wet snow on the ground I slipped and fell flat on the ground.I immediatly tried crawling away and remember looking up and seeing that big maple coming. I really thought this was it ,I'm done for.All I could think of in those few seconds was that I wouldn't see my 6yr old daughter grow up. By the grace of God I am writing this story to you this beautiful December morning. When the tree fell and I chose to run in the other direction,That decision saved my life.I did recieve one small bump on my forehead where a small hemlock came down with the maple and it just grazed my forehead.Another inch or 2 and I doubt I would be writing this morning. I didn't tell my wife how close she came to being a widow. That would just cause her to worry too much everytime I went in the woods. God is so wonderful and I am so thankful. Missilelock
Im sure glad you got away scott free....God has granted me grace a number of time when I could have just as easy been dead too... Dang it man, in that situation, you cut the maple first, drag it down with a tractor, then the beech is safe to cut......never never never cut a tree with another leaning into it. johnf
It's almost funny how the Lord changes our well thought out plans for our benefit. He's definitely not done with you.

Guest flyrodsnlongbows
Here in America, we know little of true poverty. The fact is, our garages are better than most 3rd world homes, and our pets recieve better medical care than their children do. The fact is, while we point out our economic woes here on the www , we loose sight of the fact that what we pay for our computers, and monthly online fees do not equal what most folks earn in a relative time span.
