MCH
By far, one of the best matches I've seen in quite sometime. Both fighters gave it their all, but Chuck came out on top. I had the first round close, but gave it to Silva due to the knock-downs. But rounds 2 and 3 definitely went to Chuck. I'm surprised that Silva withstood everything Chuck gave him. All in all, great fight. Pierre over Hughes was sort of a let down after that match. If Hughes would've been 5 years younger, the match wouldn't have been such a cakewalk for Pierre. But Hughes seems to have lost a step. I've never seen him not able to take an opponent down, but Pierre made him look silly. Anyone else watch? Guest Finn
didn't watch it. Good to see Chuck win again. Surprised to hear about Matt Hughes. St Pierre is dang tough....like to see him whoop Serra....don't care for that guy.
MUDRUNNER
The Liddell/Silva fight was freakin' awesome!Best fight I've seen in a while! It looks like Chuck is back on his game.No shame for Silva though, the guys a battler and it was a close fight. It sounds like Hughes might be done.I know he's opening a gym about 20 miles from here in Granite City next month.Pierre's a tough dude, but I agree,Hughes just seems to be one step behind of him.If Hughes fought Serra I think he would've won. BowJoe
I have a buddy who's a huge fan of Hughes and he was ticked. This fight had a ton of build-up along with the Liddell fight. I think the UFC though is getting a little relaxed. They used to have a whole night of good fights with several bad blood fights scheduled. Now though it seems like they put 1 or two good rival fights on and the rest are either has beens vs. 13-0 guys or rookies against 13-0 guys. Not taking anything away from the guys that are 13-0 but come on, give us something with some meat to it.
mule659
I was really pulling for Hughes as I am a huge fan but I knew he could not beat GSP before the fight ever started. Everything I have seen from his training seems kind of laid back and he is not training with any of the top guys out there anymore...everyone he trains with he seems to be on a higher level than. That is no good you need to train with bigger better more athletic people...the way GSP does. I love Hughes but GSP is without a doubt the best 170lb fighter in the world right now and will be for a long time. Hughes is still a well deserving future hall of famer and has the best record/most title defenses in UFC history and for that is a true legend but he seems to have kind of lost his desire to really go at it hard with the fire it takes to be a champ. MCH
On Ultimate Fighter, Hughes admitted that he probably only had 3 more fights left before he retired. Sounds like maybe he knew it was time. But again, let the Matt Hughes from 5 years ago fight Pierre and its a different ballgame all together.
