Guest Kelbo
i am looking into a TC pro hunter in 50. caliber muzzleloader but i am interested in geting a rifle barrel for it also. I am thinking along the lines of a 280, 7mm-08, or maybe even a 7mm mag. I can stand recoil but would like to get one were i could shoot it 10 times WITHOUT having a bruise as big as the united states on my arm. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hoosierbuck
What do you want to DO with the other barrel? Big game, varmints, target practice? That way everyone could give you their unabashed opinions as to why .22-250 is better than .223 for coyotes, or .270 is better than .308, but only slightly worse than a .25-'06 for deer, etc., etc., etc. Me? I put a .500 Smith Kitahdin Carbine barrel on my Pro-Hunter, since they just made that legal for deer in Indiana... HB
Guest Kelbo
i will mainly use both barrels for whitetail, occasionally i will use the centerfire for coyote but that will only be like one ot two times per year

Guest Finn
.270 is a great choice. Why buy a .280 and pay more for ammo when the performance is about equal? .243 would also work well, also with cheaper and readily available ammo
OJR
Go with a 270!
arrow32
Would go with a .270 or a .243. Both great choices.
Eric
7mm Rem Mag is what I would go with. That has your long range accuracy of dropping the big game animals (Elk, Bear etc. when you need that long shot to count.
VermontHunter
I prefer the .270 as well,, and the 300 Win Mag with the right load is a ticket as well ... ;)
Guest puddin
I Use A .270 For Deer, Elk, Moose And Black Bear, Also A 30.06, Either Of The Calibres Would Be Good For North American Game, Barring Grizzly. I Also Have A Tc 50 Pro Hunter, Either Would Be A Good Choice, For Smaller Game I Use A 25-06. Gear Your Calibre To The Size Of The Game You Are Hunting And Use The Best Ammunition You Can Find. maddhunter
My next choice for a rifle will be the 25-06 Rem. It won't break your shoulder or pocket book to shoot it alot, and you can get quallity deer and varmit loads. And it has plenty of punch at long yardages. The best gun to cover both deer and predators IMO.
Jorden
I have a Pro Hunter with a 30-06 barrel and would highly recommend it.
johnf
I've got a 243 and 25-06, the 25 is more affective, but has significantly more recoil, but still very manageable.
Rhino
I prefer the .270 as well,, and the 300 Win Mag with the right load is a ticket as well ... ;) I agree...details as to why are posted in the thread you started about the same thing in the Rifles & Accessories room.
