silentgate
A friend of mine got me some Winchester Extended Range shells for a Christmas gift (3 1/2'' #6). He claims they shoot better with a stock choke than a tighter after-market choke. I shoot a Mossberg 835. I have several chokes, everything from a .670 to a .695. Does anybody have any experience with these shells?
Strut10
A couple years ago I tested some 3" #6 pre-production Extended Range shells that Winchester sent me. They were the goods!! My test gun is a stock Winchester 1300 with a XXX-Full Comp-N-Choke tube (.665"). The Extended Range shells out-patterned Winchester's own Supreme HV shell by 13%-15% at any distance. The test combo provided an ample number of hits in a 3" core-density circle waaaaaaay farther than I'd ever actually shoot at a turkey. They are a bit spendy to buy. But they DO work if that's what you wanna spend your extra cash on.
elnor
I have had good luck with Win Xt Range 3in #5s in my Mossberg 835. I killed two birds last spring, one shot each at 35 and 50 yards, using an HS Undertaker HS choke on my 835 (that's my 835 in the pic below): BTW, I've seen similar results with the same shells in my Remington autoloader with a HS Undertaker HS, too. Found that combination worked the best out of several choke and shell combos from various manufacturers. YMMV, of course.
maytom
I do want to try those shells out after I go through the rest of the Nitro's I still have on hand. They do sound promising.
