Turkeygirl
Any recommendations for compact binoculars? I have a small Tasco that is dead...used it a few years for turkey hunting...doesn't focus much anymore. I'm looking for something maybe $30 or under that I can use when scanning fields/woods for turkeys or shed antlers - that's about all I use them for. Any recommendation Brand wise and power wise? The old Tasco was 12 x 25....I want something maybe a little more powerful or around that. Looking for some input; I don't even understand all the different powers anyway, lol
LETMGROW
I just picked up a couple pair of Simmons 12x25 Prosport binos. I am really impressed on how clear they are. They fold into a small carrying case and are rubber coated. They come in either black or camo and retail for under $ 25.
Guest Southern Pride
Pentax has great optics. I've used a lot of brands, and in my opinion, nothing draws more light than the Pentax.
Turkeygirl
Well I was looking around...on Ebay found a new pair of Simmons Aetec 10x25 compact binoculars going for $20 right now....seems like a good pair for what I want. Also found the Simmons Prosport ones in 8 x
wtnhunt
Ruth the first number is magnification, you probably do not need more than 8 power for what you explained. The second number is the objective size, the larger the objective the more light that will enter. Probably anything in the price range you are looking at is going to be pretty comparable to each other.

Guest bighorns2bushytails
not sure how 'compact' a 10x25 model will be. i just was shopping for new binocs and i settled for some nikon monarch 8x36's. im happy with them so far. the 8x's seem to be of a more compact size then the 10x binocs. this does seem to vary somewhat from model to model and manufacturer to manufacturer. just be carefull of internet purchases. snapper
Ruth the first number is magnification, you probably do not need more than 8 power for what you explained. Although the larger the second number is...the bigger the objectives...doesn't always mean brighter. I've seen smaller objectives that are brighter than larger objectives because of the quailty of lenses and mirrors inside. The second number best represents the FOV (field of view) which is how many feet you'll see at 100 yards. Personally, I've had several (actually lots) of the "cheaper" bino's in my time (tasco, bushnell, simmons etc...) and for the most part served their purpose. Since spending some money for a pair of Nikon's (10X42) I can't believe the difference. I know they aren't cheap...but if I added up the costs of the other bino's I've had, I'd be pretty close to the same price. If you NEED a pair now...fine...if you can wait, I'd save up for a better pair...you won't regret it.
Guest CMitchell
I had a pair of Steiner Predators. They were nice for compacts. That said, compacts just don't gather enough light for me. I found a small pair of 8x40 binos and like them a lot more. Better glass, more light, and more field of vision for not much more size and weight than compacts.
