dogdoc
chufa is actually planted the first year for the second year. It is not cold tolerant so will need to be planted in the spring. Probably around mid to late April for you. It takes about 100 days to mature. Turkeys will start scratching it up after the foliage turns brown--which is usually in the fall. They will continue to eat it thru the following spring. If you want to plant something quick for turkeys I would recommend planting buckwheat. It has like a 45 day maturity rate and the turkeys absolutely LOVE buckwheat seeds. Turkeys will feed on just about anything you plant for deer including clover. Food plots also attract lots of insects such as grasshoppers which the turkeys love to eat also--especially young birds. good luck todd

Yep, the turkeys here have been hammering our clover/trefoil and chickory plot we planted back earlier this year.
