Guest RisingSunOutdoors
This was a fun hunt with the wife. She gets to shoot her first ram with her bow. http://www.risingsunoutdoors.com/Videos/Tammy/RamHunt.wmv I got a new HD video camera (Sony HDR-FX1) a couple months ago, so I'm filming more than I'm hunting, but I am having fun! Tominator
How big was the enclosure you were hunting? Now why would you say that?
VermontHunter
How big was the enclosure you were hunting? Now why would you say that? I have NO idea as to why he would come to that conclusion either Chris ... Just because there was a fence in the background doesn't mean it was a fenced hunt ... I visited the webpage of the ranch in question and NO where does it mention this to be a fenced hunting ranch. In fact it's a Bow ONLY , and must have guide Ranch .. Here's a link to the Ranch... http://www.cherokeehoghunts.com/Facilities.htm CONGRATS to Tammy on a GREAT Ram ... Nice shot as well .. :)
lungbuster12point06
Well I wasn't trying to be offensive, the fence in the video clip looks like it is fairly new and I figured the sheep didn't appear to be terribly wild as they could obviously see them stalking them, so I was just curious how big the fenced area was.........not trying to cut on anyone, to each his/her own if it's legal,it's hunting........congrats to her on a fine shot. BowJoe
Correction, it is a guide required search but a guide is offered not required. I can't seem to load the videos. You do have to ask though why a fence is there if not to keep animals in or out. Don't know but to put a point on it... I don't like fenced enclosures meant only to keep deer or game animals in. It's the same as livestock. Granted I'm not condemning anyone on their choice just my own. I can understand if you're too old or handicap. Unless these things afflict you then I woulnd't brag about it. But like I said that's just me. Each person's ethics is way different than another's and that's the way the world works. I don't see much wrong with taking animals over bait if it's just for meat and not trophy animals. Taking a buck over bait to me is not a part of my ethics. To each their own. arrow32
Congrats on the ram. Oh and do you think we could get back to what this post was about?
VermontHunter
Correction, it is a guide required search but a guide is offered not required. NOPE ,, If you are on a stalk hunt a guide is required and NOT optional ... Which this Ram hunt appears to be a stalk hunt .. ;) Here's what it say's on their website .. Hunts are conducted primarily from stands over bait/ feeders. We do allow stalks of our hogs and rams, however a guide must accompany you at all times during the stalk. There is no extra charge for a guide but tips are greatly accepted. I still can't find wether this is a high fence hunt or not ,, I know it shows a border fence in a couple of the video shots,, but theres alot of fences in Texas ... Doe's it really matter tho ,,, it was a nice shot on a GREAT Ram ....

Guest RisingSunOutdoors
Steal the thunder... I love the first line...if your not trying to be offensive why the question? Define enclosure? All of the ranches I know of in Texas have fences; does that mean they are enclosed? I guess so...we are guilty we hunt enclosures. The 600 ac ranch we hunt whitetails, blackbuck antelope and axis deer is a cattle ranch, it has low fences, so again...we are guilty we hunt enclosures. Many, sorry all the ranches, from 100 ac to 3,000 ac., we have been invited to hunt on have been fenced. The sheep were pretty wild. Most all of them ran from the old “house” there have been hanging out in. The ram that Tammy shot was more worried about loosing the ewe to another ram than us. The other rams were more worried about us. For a hunter to take the thunder from another hunter is no more than one of two things, jealous or just trying to start debate that is pointless. There are all types of skeptics out there and that is what is great about being an American, we can say what we want, even if it hurts other people’s feelings. We can attack other people’s methods, even if it hurt their feelings. We can question other people’s ethics even if we don’t know them…that’s being a good American, a brother countryman and brother hunter. I don’t make a living at hunting. I do it for many reasons, including for the food it provides my family. I do make a living at enforcing the laws of Texas and the US. I try do treat people the way I want to be treated and respect the way others do things as long as it is legal. In human therefore not perfect, I try and do the right things and follow my heart when I make those decisions. Are those decisions always the right ones? No, but we would never kill an animal that can’t escape the pursuit of the hunter.

Guest SwatsWife
Don't get me wrong I can get a little irate! Just don't feel the need on this one. For the record I am not canned hunting person either. We ended up close to the fence because we were walking up the road and that just happened to be close to the fence. I was shaking the entire time and I loved the stalk. It took a good 45 minutes to get to him and was a lot of work. Donnie was getting frustrated with me because I wanted the shot within 20 to 25 yards. I am pretty deadly at 30 too but I like the 20 yard shots. He kept asking me how far is he. I would say 26 yards or 24 yards and he would give me this look like.. well shoot then. It was great. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I don't know what I would have done if that ewe was not around. My ram is the reason we stayed on the fence line as it was. He wanted to get a little sompin sompin from her and if you saw that video, I did let him die a happy ram.
buckee
Yep, I thought it was an awesome hunt. I could tell you were trying to get as close as you could, without spookin him. I like it up close and personal when I hunt too. Way more exciting and less chance of error...and God knows, I've made a few. I was excited watching it.
