preacherman
Has anyone tried the new Federal Black Cloud ammo for waterfowl? Just bought a couple of boxes and am looking forward to shooting these shells.

BowtechTurkeyHunter
I shot Black Cloud all year NEVER once had a hickup or hangup killed a ton of ducks and Geese with it to ... 3.5" #4 is the only load I shot this year and we knocked em dead ... a few instances are bound to happen ... doesn't mean that the ammo is bad ... I can tell you from experience that this ammo was the most popular stuff this year matter of fact EVERY ammo supplier I deal with ran completely out of it I couldnt order it half way throught he season ... personally at my store I never had a single complaint about it and we deal with a lot of hardcore waterfowlers ... personally I shoot a Benelli with a Comp-N-Choke Light Modified and man is that combo deadly ... cause it sure isnt the shooter lol ... it has to be the equipment. Give it a shot see how it patterns and let us know ... dont use a patternmaster or any other flight controlling choke it wont work and I would use either Modified or Improved one of them will for sure work. Steve That is not good news...........I just bought a Patternmaster choke tube..........everyone around here recommends them and recommends using them with this ammo. Leo
The flight control wad in this ammo has FORWARD facing fins. I am certain any wad stripping choke like the Patternmaster is a BAD idea. Likewise ANY ported choke may be a problem with this wad. The pictures on the link Dogdoc posted look to me like one of two things was a problem. The choke was not screwed all the way in. The lead in from bore to choke was stepped and allowed the forward fins to catch in it.

BowtechTurkeyHunter
That is not good news...........I just bought a Patternmaster choke tube..........everyone around here recommends them and recommends using them with this ammo. You dont have to use them ... with the black cloud you get the wad control with the ammo not the gun ... you will for sure wow them if you dont use the patternmaster ... but since you have already bought one I would suggest the Remington HD stuff and right now if you buy a case you get 15 dollars off a box which is about half price so you buy the cse for 300 and you get 150 back ... pretty cheap for A+ ammo ... just something else to think about. iabow
My buddy shot BlackCloud this year, the BBs and 4s. I must say the big stuff he and I both didn't think was to hot but the 4s impressed the heck out of him and I both. He was shooting a IC Nova. Acouple times the ducks were out there beyond what I'll shot at, maybe 50 yds and he dropped them cold dead with one shot. I hit a cripple that sailed off about 65 or so yds, looked at him asked if he could finish that one. One shot the water just made him vanish, not one leg kicked. It's a little to expensive for me and for my ranges but I still was impressed. Some of the wound channels were crazy too in those birds I cleaned. gitcha_some
Ive been shooting BBB at geese all year and it knocks the heck out of them for sure. Reminds me of the old lead days, stone dead geese and man it reallllllly makes them blead out if you happen to cripple one, he wont go far
coles
i shot them on the only good duck hunt i had all year. i was more than pleased with them out of my 870. ill be sure to shoot them next year
Guest linebacker_91
it's a dirty load. i am kinda mad at myself for switching from hevisteel to try this load. even more so putting it through Lucy, my beretta extrema2. it's actually a very dirty load. kingfisherfd2
I used them a couple times this season. I figured out that the crimp on the end is too long for my Mossburg 500. They shoot nice, but they would hang up on the ejection. The open crimped edge would catch and prevent the reload. So, for me BLackCloud is a no go. PineyBrake
My uncle showed up with some of those shells Friday morning and he was dropping everything. I shot them Saturday morning and was dropping ducks dead with one shot in the fields (30 yard shots). I will definitely have a case of those to start next season. They are the best shell I have shot that I can remember. I have no idea what the deal with them is, but we killed more ducks and had less cripples Friday and Saturday than we did all year!
