Live hunt in Iowa, late muzzleloader

Just got a call from Tim.

He's sitting in the blind still, with a bunch of does in the field. He can see a good 500 yards from his blind location, and has seen no less than 50 deer per day.

This morning he has seen 8 bucks, and 3 shooters around 120-125, but he's still waiting for Mr. big. No shortage of does.

He said, he has a date with a fence-post buck :D

He said they figured, when he shot at that Fence-post buck, he was looking through the scope at the buck, and didn't even see the top of metal post. The scope was looking over the top, but the barrel, being under the scope, and the fence-post being so close, was a recipe for fence-post. He hit the very top of it......Dang eh.So close, and yet, sooooooooooooooooo far :D

PS - Tim also said "I'm having the time of my life, just sitting here, and seeing so many deer. It's not everyday you can sit in a blind, and see 20 - 25+ deer per sit. It's awesome"

Update:

Just got a call from Tim.

I wondered what happened to him last night. He sent me a text, but I didn't get it :(

Last night Tim saw the biggest buck in his life. He said it was minimum 180, but, it was on the other side of the fence, (state park), and he was waiting for it to come another 50 yrds and cross the fence. All of a sudden, a noisy vehical came by on the road over that way, and the deer turned and ran back into the woods :(

This is his last night. He's hunkered down in his blind, waiting for either the Fence-post buck, or the 180 to show up again now, but the snow is gone, and there is way too much browse now, too pattern anything as far as feeding goes.

It looks like he will be relying on a blessing tonight.

He said he's have a fantastic time, just seeing so many great deer. :D He's seen over 160 deer since he's been there, and there's never a dull moment. The 180 sighting last night made his whole trip worth while.

He only saw about 15 does so far today, so it's going to be a long 2 1/2 hrs this afternoon and evening.

He'll be going home in the morning, so wish him all the best.

LOL! Either way, I felt like part of the hunt! This was great. Think Tim is on to something, and I think he should get credit for it. What an ambassador for RT.

Either way, thanks to you guys and Tim for sharing the hunts. Reminds me of when I was laid up last year and Tom was giving me updates on his hunts all the time.

Good luck Tim.

OK talked to Tim tonight and you guessed it he had the fence post buck at 54 yards ... right in front of him ... came into the field exactly the same way as he did the other night ... hesitated at the corner where he jumped the fence and heard the gun shot two nights earlier ... Tim was ready to take the buck ... when he realized something very important was missing on the buck ... his one side of the antler had already shed off ... the brow time on the left siade was at least 5 to 6 inches tall so you can imagine what the other side would have done... what a let down for Tim except for the fact that the night before he had seen an absolute monster on the other side of the road from where he was hunting ... just happened to have been a state park.

Tim said that absolutely made his whole trip to see a huge buck that big ... he never had seen one that big before.

Theres the last update from the hunt and Tim goes home empty handed but not without a ton of memories he absolutely had a blast in Iowa.

Hopefully I can meet up with him tomorrow before he flies out of town.

Steve
