BearClaw
What is the best but reasonably priced gutting knife that you use, the kind with the 'hook' blade. I've been looking at the Puma combo and the Buckmaster brand in the Sportsman's Guide. Your thoughts?
Snipe
Funny you brought this up...My oldest son gave me a gift card for x-mas from Bass Pro.. I have been thinking about a new knife... Or 2 . After 3 hours reading and looking at field dressing knives. I have set my eyes on this one.. Gerber® Freeman Fixed With Gut Hook Im a fixed blade guy when it comes to my game cleaning... You may like a Lock Blade.. You can pick this one up for around $50.00..
wtnhunt
I have a schrade gut hook that was given to me as a gift several years ago, it is ok. The gerber knives sure hold an edge well, if I was to buy a new one it would likely be a gerber.

Guest bowhunter4life
i have a gerber gut hook with a razor blade in it. i think it works really well. all you have to do is put a starter hole somewhere with another knife then you can zip right along. plus you can change the blade which is nice

Adjam5
I have and used a Schrade Old Timer 1580T gut hook for about 20 years and yet... I have become quite fond of Cold Steel Knives as of late. www.coldsteel.com I have purchased the Pendleton mini hunter, The Master hunter Plus with gut hook and....The bird and trout knife. These knives hold a tremendous edge and are shaving sharp out of the box. They are little bit more expensive than other knives, but you get what you pay for. Go to the website and get the free DVD they offer. See what I mean.
bfletch7441
I have this one, and really like it. http://www.buckknives.com/catalog/detail/207/224 I only paid about $50 for mine, but that was 5 or so years ago. Ben
Guest CMitchell
I have a Browning FDT. It has a blade, a gut hook, and a saw. It's nice to have a little saw. I think they're around $75 or so. It's held up well. I also have a Ka-bar Precision knife. Great knife for the money. I probably gutted at least 7 deer before having to sharpen it again. It's small which isn't a bad thing.
Stickslinger
I heard a rumor that a buddy of yours does most of the gutting, is this knife going to be a gift to him??? I have another question: Can you skin grizz pilgrim?
ParrotHead2005
Has anyone tired the Havalon knife. The blade is a surgical blade that you replace.
Widowmaker
You might want to take a look at the Buck Zipper fixed blade knife. It has been a great knife for me for years and great steel used with the Buck knives.

BearClaw
I finally ordered the Buck Omni-Hunter in Realtree from Bass Pro and got it today. It seems like a great knife! It has a nice thick blade on the back, razor sharp on the other side, good balance and a real nice feel to it. Came with a Realtree sheath with a snap closure. Can't wait to try it! Maybe in Turkey season I hope!

stevebeilgard
I have a Browning FDT. It has a blade, a gut hook, and a saw. It's nice to have a little saw. It's small which isn't a bad thing. i have 2 of these knives. i got the second one after about 500 head of gutting antelope & deer. just wore it out, and the blade was down 1/3 in size. i've also had old timers & schrade, and liked them both. i'm not a buck fan. luke also gave good advice with the lansky diamons sharpening system. it's great. Straight Shooter
Gerber all the way. I've got a three bladed Gerber that i've had for 12 years or more. They don't even make this knife anymore. Its got the skinning blade, gut hook blade, and a bone saw blade with the outer shell made of high impact plastic. Everything i've got is Gerber, so I guess i'm partial to them. lol;)
johnf
I got this one as a going away present. I've had a tough year hunting, so the only thing it's cut is a few arm hairs. http://www.buckknives.com/catalog/detail/217/
