Stand Stealing

I don't know what it is about people around here. Went out to take down my stand but someone else decided to do it for me. That is 2 stands in 2 years from different locations.

They left the harness and the rope but they are way up the tree. My steps are gone too, so No I'm not going to rescrew steps into the tree to retrieve my rope and harness.

Thanks

Man, I feel for ya.:(

My buddies and I have had 7 stands stolen in the past 15 years.:(

I haven't even hung a stand in 3 years now, since the last theft.

I have lag bolted and chained stands to the trees, and they still manage to get them. They just check it out, see that they need a socket wrench and bolt cutters, and come back with the tools they need later.

I just don't get some people. I just thank God, I didn't catch them doing it, because it kind of scares me to think of what I might do.

We did manage to track down 2 stands out of the seven, one year. Turned out it was 3 kids, that lived about 1/2 mile away, and one kid actually had one hanging in his back yard when we came to investigate. His Mama wasn't too happy...LOL

We had to threaten to get the police involved, before the other one showed up too .

Try this

My Father-in-law was having trouble with people climbing his wooden fence and stealing things...He found where they were climbing and attached some rather large treble hooks with 2 inch long deck screws on his side of the fence...

I have heard of people doing this to their car radios but not on wooden fences..

Needless to say when he went out the next day, he knew who was stealing his stuff...

He hasn't had that problem since...

Man thats gonna leave a mark...

Just last night my hunting buddy and I went out and someone had stolen his new Summit climber:mad:, boy was he a HOT ticket. They had to have had bolt cutters.

I'm with ya, Buckee, I hope I don't have the opportunity to find out what I'd do if I caught someone steeling a stand.

Its gotten to the point where I put a chain with a lock around my ladder stand. I'm not gonna trust anyone and I don't wanna lose $170.

I do the same. I'll admit to stealing a few stands but it was only on property that no one was supposed to be hunting and I took them to the land owner. We always warn the people to leave also. If they want their stands back they can go see the land owner.

It really is too bad that people can't respect the property of others. We spend our hard earned money to help ourselves be more successful and someone else has to steal it. It sucks but unfortunately it will never end. I also chain my stands to the tree, to help deter someone from trying to take it.

Yeah and possibly a law suit.

It make requirea little extra work but how about some strap on climbing sticks that you can carry out with you. That would force them to carry a ladder all the way into the woods to get your stand. A little hard labor might actually deter some theives.

I hate thieves. This year I had a tresspasser steal my Cuddeback noflash. It was out in the middle of our private property and they pryed it off the tree. $ 450.00 camera gone. I hate thieves.

That's why I'm afraid to get one of the nice trail cams. We are lucky that with all the stands and cameras we have out, nothing has been stolen, but I think I would cry if I lost a nice Cuddeback!

I've had 2 stolen. One climber and one ladder stand. I never leave climbers out on public land anymore. And our ladder stands are now on private property. I hate thieves.......

I had my climber stolen opening week of archery season on private property. I was not happy wondering if I was standing at the base of the wrong tree 45 min before daylight.:( I think it put a hex on my whole year.

I've had a few stolen but got a couple back after they missed the game camera and the pictures told the story.

Now I head to the local lumber yard and get (3) treated 2x4x16's and make a wonderful 16' ladder stand for less than you could imagine. They've been in the woods for two years now, blend in great, and best of all no one is taking them.

Its gotten ridiculous around here, I know 2 guys both had homemade ladder stands they put out, both were stolen. The thing was these 2 stands werent even something anyone could really want, they were heavy, uncomfortable, and both were rather dangerous to sit in IMPO.

Kinda makes me think maybe theyre not stealing the stands just to use them.Weve reduced our deer herd, have more guys hunting with bows and late season muzzleloaders, and good spots on public ground are hard to get.I think theyre just stealing things to keep other people out of these areas so they can hunt them themselves:mad:

I've had 2 or 3 stolen. I don't hang stands anymore.

I know what you mean. Its gotten to the point where I hunt, I only use heavy tripods.

People here were stealing lock ons but they were also backing their trucks up & stealing ladder stands that fold in the middle. Taking them right off the tree in the middle of the morning.

What is really pathetic about all this, is we more than likely know the bad guy, or he knows us, and where we hunt.......and what really makes me mad, is if you get an officer of the law, that is not a hunter, that just "files" his report, and no follow up, though you have the prime suspects boot prints, truck sightings, and half wit confession he was in the area at the time of the theft.....I really have to compose myself if I catch the thief that owns mine....I know who he is, he was caught "trying" to cut chains on an "occupied" stand....he didnt see the guy in the higher stand............was quite the heated discussion in the woods...............I think if he continued to cut, I would of had to help dig a whole for his worthless carcass............the guy he tried stealing from was three times his size. al

This is why I'm using this type of stand ..

cabelasLogo.gifE-Z Hangâ„¢ Treestand

i417987sn01.jpg

It hangs on this type of receiver that you can buy multiples of for one stand for different locations ..

s7_416282_imageset_01?$main-Large$

The stand sells for $79.00 and extra recivers are only $20.. ;)

the recievers stay in the tree but the stand comes home with me ... :);)

And the thiefs can start singing GOOD NIGHT IRENE .. :D:D

Here's another funny story, Me and a buddy went small game hunting and he wanted to show me his stand, Well what do you know somebody had decided to take it down for him. This theives used there shotguns to shoot through the cable wrapped around each section of the stand and somehow busted the 3/8" link chain. I was laughing my butt off to see these morons shot holes into the tree and busted the stand just to take it....
