I was wondering who you thought would be the next one and why? Why do you support this person?

I've seen alot of coverage on the news here and my boyfriend doesn't like Mrs Clinton, is she a good person? I think Obama is ok but again i dont know alot about US politics to judge these candidates.

I know alot of folks in the US choose because of religious status but thats wrong in my view as i have to consider what this person can do for my country and support them. It speaks for itself considering what Bush has done for the US.

Would encourage you to check on all the candidates and see where they stand. If I had my way, Fred Thompson would be our next president, however it is not looking that likely at the present time that he will get the nomination. I do not particularly like Rudy Giuliani, but would vote for him if he ends up getting the nomination for the republican party and would support him as our president in the event he ends up our president. I will not vote for any of the democratic candidates, John Edwards is probably the lesser of all the evils there that actually has a chance. Obama or Hillary either one are not what this country needs, not now or ever.

I would suggest you take some time on your own away from here to research the candidates and understand where they stand on issues, maybe then come back and ask more questions.

And in your humble and self-admitted, uninformed opinion...........just what has Bush "done for the U.S."??

Well you seem to know better than me,y ou tell me, though he certainly does have alot of negative coverage here and so i hear his own party has lost faith in him.

I only have a couple of minutes, so here are a few of President Bush's accomplishments off the top of my head:

Signed tax cut legislation which spurred an economy reeling from the dotcom bust and the 9/11 attacks. This helped end the recession that he inherited and, despite the uncertainty over the War on Terror, has led to 6 consecutive years of economic growth.

Stopped federal funding of partial birth abortions

Stimulated the economy which has resulted in the lowest sustained jobless rates since records have been kept.

Removed the barbaric dictatorships of two nations, giving almost 50 million oppressed people an opportunity to determine their own future and fate through the democratic process.

Kept the U.S. free from terrorist attacks since 9/11/2001.

Refused to sign the disastrous Kyoto Treaty.

Well, its no wonder you make these statements about Bush. All you hear is the negatives!

Lets just say this!

Your country has very tough guns laws and ownership! The 99% democrats would love to live there! Because they do not want guns in the hands of the public! Nor do they support hunting! Mind you, not all democrats are like this. But when push comes to shove, they will follow party lines for their best interest!

99% of the Republicans support gun ownership and hunting! Knowing this, who would you vote for? Being a hunter and a gun owner!

Bottom line is this! You got to know what each person stands for! Period!

I always go for what a particular person can offer to benefit my country. Yes my country has strict gun laws but i feel safe here and have never been attacked on heard of handgun violence here, bottom line is i still want to live in America and i would own a gun. I hunt and I will do so until i die. I have no objection to gun ownership as long as that person is mentally fit to own one.

Its a hellish process to go through to get a rifle certificate as its a firearms license, i need shooting rights from estates (deer hunting) but its easy peasy to get a shotgun licence on the plus side i have alot of friends who are farmers, i have probably the most shooting rights in Renfrewshire ;)

My dad also used to have a gun but gave up his license as my mum didn't like guns in the house, which i can understand.

Does anyone know where i can read about each of the candidates?

Obviously you get CNN or MSNBC in Scotland, too.

The resident certainly does have a lot of negative coverage in the U.S. too. That's what a liberal-controlled media will get you. President Bush could cure cancer, establish world peace and walk on water all in the same day and the liberal media would find 10 ways to put a negative spin on it all. Or they just wouldn't report any of it. But let him fart at Taco Bell and it'd be a breaking story.

George W. Bush is the best thing that has happened to the Oval Office since 1988.

I like Mike Huckabee and I like what he stands for...for the most part. Once I briefly read over all the canidates wants and needs, he was the only one who stood out so he is the only one that I continued to learn about. I think I just may vote for him.

Rudy is a waste of time and is using his figure from 9-11 to gain popularity in the politcal spectrum. He'll won't make it to the finals anyway;)

Don't know too much about Thompson besides he was an actor.

Romney I met at a funeral for a Marine up in Massachusetts when he was governer. Besides that, don't know him.

Obama...If he wins, there goes American way of life:rolleyes:

Clinton-I really don't know what to say about her:D

I got Barack Obama then John Edwards. I think its because i voted for stem cell research, universal healthcare (here) anti abortion though it depends on the circumstance (medicall problem) marriage should be between and man and woman only, and we need to get the troops out of Iraq.

Some of the stuff i really didn't understand though being Scottish.

P.S In my view i think America needs to tighten up esp with immigration.

Americas image here and elsewhere has been tarnished because of the war in Iraq and different other issues, i think whoever will be president will make a different because America needs change because the way it is now is not appealing. I.e tighter immigration, cutting the poverty, increasing minimum wage, tax cuts, tighter abortion rules and marriage.

The biggest thing is upping wages because i've seen alot of poverty in America.

Take care all.

Scottishhunter,

If you want to be informed about this country, the first thing you need to do is learn its history, and I mean everything. Read the constitution, research its meaning, and understand what our basic rights are. When I look at a candidate, it is not just about a freedom to own guns, its about candidates acknowledging our basic freedoms in this country. An "anti" does not support that basic right, and that begs the question on what else they would like to see stripped from us on behalf of what they think the "greater good" should be.

Before you move here, make it in your best interest to support our constitution and take full advantage of your freedoms without limiting the freedoms of others over "feel good" legislation. Make sure you are prepared to defend that constitution at all costs, and understand that when talk starts flying about limiting people's rights, especially here, you may want to start looking for an exit. When it comes to guns and hunting, you cannot ride the fence of indecision because of what Scotland practices. We are not Scotland.

There is such a melting pot of people here that bring their beliefs of limiting certain basic rights from their home countries thinking they will work here, and the liberal side will jump all over it to gain support. They do not work here, and if I have anything to do with it, they will not even get the opportunity.

I could really care less your opinion about Bush, and I certainly won't play nice when it comes to any talk about a liberal Democrat taking office based upon "Bush's Failures" in the world media. The simple fact of the matter is that this country faces a real threat that must be stopped. Bill Clinton did nothing to stop it, nor will Hillary. People don't like us, and if they decide to move on that opinion and do something to us, then you can better bet that we are going to bite back, and it will hurt. If you can't deal with that fact, then maybe you should just stay right where you are. Because after all, this is our country today.

Get your head out of the news, and put your head in a history book. I don't mean any of this to sound rude, but if you want to understand today's politics and the passion about this country that is so apparent, you need to learn its history first. This country is straying away from its foundings by a cancer from within. The last thing we need is more people here who support that cancer based on actions that are portrayed in the media. Which I might add, doesn't always show how happy the Iraqi and Afghani people are for giving them the opportunity to speak their minds without being hunted down by a death squad. Hitler anyone? We have killed two birds with one stone. Freed the oppressed and avenged and protected our nation. If there is an issue with that, then by all means, go find a group of uneducated haters and side with them. This country has survived too much to be taken over by a bunch of hippies in suits.

Well, if you want immigration tightened, a democrat will not do that. You also forget the war in Afghanistan. Universal healthcare is a socialist notion. Paid for by the taxpayers. Most of which pay for their own healthcare and have a real problem with paying for others when they won't seize the opportunities this country offers. In other words, an eternal child that won't get off the teet, and a mother that allows it.

I've been living with a Southerner for 2 years and do understand America just not politics.

Like i said previously I hunt and had guns and believe in basic freedom and rights.

There are alot of Scots in the US and love it there, I will be the same. Hey im loved there :)

I dont know if its the same in the US but we just live to be happy here and everyone is different, we have open minds and opinions which doesn't make us bad. There are TONS of Americans and Canadians living here

HUH!!

Nope ;) a mixture.

We aren't THAT liberal god!

Almost ALL of Europe is 10 times more liberal than the liberals in the US!:(:(

All you socialized medicine and that crap, you can keep it across the pond!:(:(:(

That is one of the BIG reasons to never vote for HILLIARY! She wants the government to control everything. The same as all the other liberals!:eek::eek:

I was stationed in England and saw what it was like! Their medical system sucks!:(:(

You are all the time talking about no poverty. Well who pays for it? The taxpayer! You keep that socialized system. If your poor, get a hold of your bootstraps and better yourself, not have the government do it for you!:rolleyes:

Enough!

You know... it's getting really annoying answering the same questions or rather statements made by you Sarah. I'll probably get reprimanded for this but it's worth it. I respect anyone's opinion that wants to give one as long as they don't make them foolishly or presumingly towards the same people they are asking the questions or statements to. I seriously see you giving up your privilege to hunt here in the United States if you ever make it here. You have repeatedly bashed everything we hold dear and when confronted with why you turn and answer with another question. You have no grounds for your beliefs except to say that your boyfriend says this or in Scotland it's like this or I saw this on CNN, youtube, MSNBC or you just simply think the USA is trash compared to everything else. Yet you say in the same breath that you really want to come here. Poverty is everywhere, criminals are everywhere, violence is everywhere, disease, drugs, AIDS, starvation is everywhere. You don't live in a Utopia and nobody here has said that America is a Utopia. Besides, Utopia literally means, "No where." It's a myth. But one thing we do have here that no other country can claim is we have the closest thing to freedom of man that any current country can claim. You name a country and I guarantee I can name a freedom we have that they don't. I read where you played the sympathy card on some of your first posts. Mods took up for you and part of that was sympathy for ignorance. You have been on here long enough to lose that sympathy for ignorance. Members on here have asked you numerous times to simply read up on a non liberal news media before or even after you ask questions followed by presumptuous statements. I hope you stay a member of these forums but not at the risk of having to tell you repeatedly to read up on things before you make statements that are contrary to what the outdoor way of life stands for. You want more gun control but not hunting guns. You want tighter immigration rules but not against you who would be an immigrant. You want rights for gays because that's the "in" thing to do and you say we are closed minded if we don't accept gays yet you don't accept our opinion to dislike it as well. Now who's close minded? You want minimum wages raised yet that will only cause everything we buy to rise in price as well nullifying the effect. You want 5 weeks off of work paid because that's what you have at home. I will say this. I love Scotland and what little I know of it. I feel the same about Ireland, England and most of Europe. But I love my country the best. Because I know that I can drive 5 minutes from my home and fish, hunt, have a picnic or just take in God's scenery. I'm sure you have the same thing there somewhere but I know no more of it than you do of my backyard. My point is that until you can claim to be a part of our great country and it's leaders, then please keep your misguided and uneducated statements to yourself. I promise to do the same with mine about your country. Remember that envy is one of the 7 deadly sins and jealousy is usually the reason for cutting down somebody. One side note. I hope you got my PM about your avatar. I'm sure that if we can't discuss beer on here then showing it is just as inappropriate.

wow, for once I am stuck for words.

I am not going to start an argument because its not worth it, lets just leave it at that. You've obviously got your opinions and so have i so be it.

I am proud and love my country too and I also love America, that is all that I will say. I just dont care anymore about politics and whatever because as soon as I open my mouth and its something thats not the same opinion as everyone else i get bashed. So much for freedom of speech.

With regards to the beer thing, I changed the pic if it was so offense to you which i cannot understand but hey, its done anyway.

Sarah.
