BearClaw
I have a BSA Red Dot scope that a friend of mine bought for me. I wanted to mount it on a Mossbeg 835 shotgun so I bought the bracket but it wouldn't fit. I went to Gander Mtn today and the man in firearms said that scope would not fit that shotgun. He said I could exchange it for another but I didn't buy it nor did I have the receipt. What red dot scope will fit the 835?
johnf
I don't think the guy knew what he was talking about. Any weaver style rail should accommodate the BSA scope.

brownie65
I bet you can get a mount that it will work on. I have several red dot scopes & love them. Last year I got a pentax ( was a open one, doesn't look like a scope if you know what I am talking about) My son loves it because he can find deer in it a lot better. You don't look thru a scope you basically have a open picture, put the dot on them & go. Anyway I started talking about this because it wouldn't mount onto the mounts I had. I machined a new slot in my mounts & it works great. I think know matter what you can get it to work. Either get the right mount or a little machining might be in order. Strut10
Yep. Weaver rails is Weaver rails. I've got a BSA red dot on an 870 and an SX2 via the B-Square Saddlemount. Works just peachy.
257bob
Weaver rails I have got the Weaver mount on my 835 with a Millet red dot and it works great. They are not normally stocked in a lot of stores. I had to order mine online, but it cost less than $10.

HUNTINGMAN
I am thinking about geting a red dot scope,I was wondering if they are much better than a fixed power scope or if they are just over rated.

Over rated,, definately not.... Red Dots are great in those low light situations .. ;) Are they better than fixed scopes ?? well that depends who you ask and the shooter .. ;) Either one is a win - win in my book .. johnf
One thing you have to remember with a red dot is the size of the dot limits your accuracy. I had a 3-9X40 on my 30-30 and it shot a very respectable 1.5" at 100 yards with it. With the red dot I could only muster a 5" group. (the size of the dot) But if your shooting low light, or short distances in brush they would be great. There's no eye relief and instant target acquisition. I use one on my 22lr pistol and can pop a squirrel with ease at 30 yards.
BearClaw
A friend of mine called yesterday and told me had machined the Weaver mounts with new slots and the scope fits perfect. I can't wait to try it!
