Ok im a big guy. Im 6'3 360 and i usually use a grand ol man treestand rated for about my weight but i also use some hang ons rated for 250 pounds im really not worried about it because i seen the tree lounge video and they had it on a medal pole with a thousand pounds of bricks on it and it didnt do a thing. Im sure it wont break on me because they do these numbers to be safe but i was wandering what you guys think. Do you think that its unsafe? I think im fine because all the numbers are there for is to be SAFE and they probably exagerate the numbers really low.

I would say your prolly ok. Now I say prolly cuz i would feel horrible if somthin happend. They put those numbers on there to protect themselves from being sued and other things. But I guess with anything, if somthing is faulty it could fail under its own weight. I would wear a safetybelt reguardless what the weight limit is tho.

my take is-- treestand manufacturers have to put a weight rating on their stands for liability purposes. My OPINION is that the stands will hold alot more weight than their rating says. I weighed 300 pounds & used lots of stands that had 250 pound ratings on them. No doubt in my mind that they would be ok for a extra 50 pounds. I now weigh 265 pounds so I am getting closer to their rating, woohoo. My Goliath is rated at 300 or 350 don't remember which one. I suspect they will hold substantially more weight than what it says BUT if a failure occurs & something happens & it is by overloading then they are protected.

I agree with almost everything everyone has said except the premise that you should keep doing what you are doing. I would not trust what appears to be guys guessing that the tree stand will hold you as word enough to use it. IMHO I would get one rated for your weight. Just my opinion and happy hunting.

Be safe.

yeah i usually dont use a saftey harness though. And my grand ol man is made for my size and i love it i hardly ever use anything else and ill never wear a saftey harness in that thing you have to be pretty dumb to figure out how to fall out of that thing. But i have fell out of hang ons twice from about twenty feet and it sucked im just glad i only weighed about 220 then.

Ouch...I've never fallen out of a stand and I still use a harness...

Besides, just because its hard to fall out of the stand, doesn't mean something won't happen to make the stand fall out from under you. I've never flown through a windshield either, but I still wear a seatbelt in the car. I keep life jackets in my boat too, even though I've never fallen out or flipped it over...
