Guest pc154
I went out today to start my shed hunting career. I knew there were 10-12 bucks that had been in the area during the season, so I had high hopes. Looked for 3 hours and after the first 40 minutes I looked down at my feet and realized I was almost standing on one. Searched the immediate area hard, but couldn't find the match. A few questions. How do you tell how old sheds are?? I think this may be the shed from the big guy from last year. Three ends appear to be chewed or broken off. I am thinking broken from a fight maybe because they are a big sharp. As well, there is a couple "groves" on a couple beams where maybe something was chewing??? On the G2 there is a grove or thinned out spot, where the split G2 is on the big buck. Where the antler came off, it is green looking and very hard. A few poor quality pics, hopefully explains it a bit better. Either way I am hooked. Still quite a bit of snow though.
Turkeygirl
You're right, definitely last year's shed but what an awesome find! Looks to be from the deer in the photo...nice deer! Fresh sheds have that sheen/gloss to them still and don't have any green mossy stuff starting on them. Does looks chewed on a bit but not bad for sitting around a year. Congrats! Tominator
Yep, last year's shed for sure. Along with what Ruth said, usually around the burr you will see some of the skin still attached to the antler on a fresh shed. If they are really fresh you might even see a tinge of blood on it. Guest pc154
Thanks guys. I am hooked and pumped to get back out there. Pretty sure all the bucks here have dropped, based on trail cam pics. A lot dropped around mid-late December.

Zambo
Congratulations on your first shed. I like finding all sheds but a year old shed tells me the area was not pounded to hard last year. Good luck with the rest of the season.
