toddyboman
Whats wrong with these fans...... GRANT TOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Relatives of Rich Rodriguez have been harassed and threatened in the three weeks since his resignation as West Virginia football coach. His mother, Arleen Rodriguez, said her teenage grandson received a death threat and found other harassing notes taped to his locker at East Fairmont High School. Arleen said her 12-year-old granddaughter had to be escorted to classes. Mountaineer fans furious over Rodriguez's Dec. 16 decision to accept the coaching job at Michigan also vandalized his home near Morgantown, hanging signs on a fence and tossing a mailbox in the yard. http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/7651472 Just a bit extreme.....Sure your mad your coach left but come on...:(
craig mack
Thats just stupid!!!! I'm sure no big name coach will ever go there knowing that if he leaves this is what will happen. A few idiots are making alot of WVU fans look bad.
buckbuster11
What he did was bad timing. Do it after the season is over. Finish your commitment to the players. With that said, what are these people complaining about? They just creamed Oklahoma in what was probably the most significant win in the history of West Virginia football and they did it WITHOUT Rich Rodriguez. And one more thing, just imagine if someone came up to you and said, "Hey I've got a job here that will pay you a bunch more then you are getting paid now, we'll give you more freedom to run things your way, and you will have an even more prestigious title then you have now" There is not one person on this forum, or any of these DB's making threats, or anyone else on this planet, that wouldn't drop the job they work at right now like a sack of hot potatoes. VABuckSlayer
That's pretty bad! There isn't much to do in WV but still... give the guys family a break. It's not like his kids made the decision. Of course we're talking about kids doing this in the first place.

dogdoc
that happens in a lot of places. When Gary Gibbs was coach at ZeroU his kids got threatened at school the year he was fired. lots of idiots out there--none in Stillwater though:)
dg
This does happen alot in other places. The media just loves to dig up schtuff on WV. Next season, WVU will be famous for burning couches again, although OSU fans (what 15?) were arrested again. WV always gets stereotyped. It's a handful of punks. Don't lump all into one category. There's enough idiots all over the country. Watch the news.
Alisha
Of course we're talking about kids doing this in the first place. Exactly my thought. You have idiots wherever you go in this world, not just in West Virginia. Had the same coaching situation happened in any other state at one of the larger NCAA Football schools... it would have been the same reaction. Guaranteed. I don't care if it's kids or adults doing this, its freakin stupid no matter what age group they fall in.

The future is looking just fine.........We're not rebuilding the ENTIRE staff as you say. We still have our asst now head coach, we still have our DC. And we are getting some good replacements with WV ties. The Mountaineer spirit lives on. And we took the Big 12 to the wood shed.

And we are getting some good replacements with WV ties lol, might as well be the entire staff...but all they need is an offensive coordinator, QB coach, WR coach, offensive line coach, safeties coach , defensive backs coach, and strength and conditioning coach (the rest of the S&C staff as well)...all that know the system...but hey, they'll be fine . They are pretty much building from the ground up right now. Not sure any top recruits would want to go to a school with that much change right now. Hope Stewart can get them to (or keep them at) the level RichRod had them, especially after Pat White and Slaton leave and they've already lost their top receiver to the NFL. Alisha
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2 - I don't know why you or anyone else cares so much about our team and what's going on with us now anyway. Why aren't you busy basking in the glory of your favorite team buying out our former coach and 90% of our coaching staff? Oh, and as well as our former basketball coach, and ALMOST our womens soccer coach. Can't your college find any other schools to buy coaches from? Oh and btw - how are you guys enjoying Beilein? Good luck next season.

Sorry, I guess I was mistaken, I thought this was the SPORTS room. I was discussing a TEAM, that is part of a SPORT, like anyone else does with any other subject brought up in here. Like Michigan when thye lost to App. State, Or ohio state last week, or the Packers, the Bears, the Browns, go look, you'll be surprised at how many sports related topics there are in this room Its fact, they need to rebuild the majority of their coaching staff, no matter there they went. I never once mentioned Michigan football, or bought up that michigan was the reason, that wasn't what was being discussed. Theres an old saying..."if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen" disclaimer:this comment is not meant to be sexist, just in case some of you get the wrong idea:rolleyes: how are you guys enjoying Beilein? Enjoying him just fine. With any sport, when you bring in a new coach with a new system (especially Beleins system), and have to teach it to a young team,(basketball is more than just putting the ball through the hoop )the first year or 2 is going to be a struggle. Not saying that in 2 or 3 years they'll be a great team or even a good team, we'll just have to wait and see, but it'll be at least a couple years before anyone can actually say he is going to work out here or not. wvhoytbowhunter
As with a lot of mountaineer fans I was very disappointed and angry when Coach Rod decided to leave. Coming after one of the biggest upsets in college football history and all the hype behind it, I can see why fans were upset from the sudden departure. I don't like seeing all the threats taken place though. Those idiots need to grow up and move on.. They need to remember that he took the program to greater heights. Better than their beloved Don Nehlen. Life will go on. I don't know if the new guy is the answer, but its time to move on. He had a great thing in Mo-town and could have probably retire there. He might regret his decision in a few years when he takes a few poundings from the Bucks. Thats sports now a days though. Some one is always looking for something better.. Maybe the young guys should go and talk to Joe-Pa up in Happy Valley about LOYALTY
OUTSIDER
I just read the paper this morning, We have but 2 openings left on our football team's coaching staff. We got some great assistant and associate coaches...and quite possibly the best recruiting coach in the country in "Doc" Holliday from Florida. We got coaches who want to be here, who have ties to WV, and most importantly have class, charcter, and loyality. Coach Stewart had to work his way up to become Head coach...And he EARNED it with hard work. We folks in WV know what hard work is, our new staff is a group of hard workers and they are going to produce a group of hard working athletes to lead WVU to more years of Greatness. Coach Rod should not have been ousted like he so harshly was...Also he should not have put his team on the back burner when he was having talks with Michigan weeks before the end of the season. But i wish him good luck!! and Beline!!
