horst
Im a little behind times, I have had a bunch 777 I got on sale two years ago Ive been shooting, I kept reading about the powder with Jim Shockeys name on it{ cant think of what its called} and never got a chance to try it.My cousin bought his first muzzleloader today and we were using the 50 grain sticks of this stuff and I was amazed, we shot an entire box of Shockwaves through his gun and never had trouble loading it at all, no problems with accuracy, nothing.About 10 shots into the box I ran one patch through it just to see what it looked like, the patch was barely dirty. So are there any negatives to this powder I should be aware of?Im considering switching, I kinda liked the sticks as they were easy to load but may go with the loose powder, Ive got just about enough 777 to last the rest of the season then Im gonna have to buy some more of one brand or another. Guest turkeyhuntr
I never shot any of that powder but I did come across this a while back. I hope it helps http://randywakeman.com/A2006BlackPowderSubstituteRoundup.htm
wtnhunt
My ml did not seem to like the stuff Chris. Would not waste your time or money on shockeys gold. Tried the American Pioneer powder and had poor results with it compared to pyrodex. Think I am going to hit wal marts clearance stuff this morning. They had a ton of triple 7 leftover, price should be right if there is any still left.

bluelund79
You're going to like your Wolf ML. I got mine after last xmas and it was spot on at 100 yards out of the box. Shoots 2-3" groups with 100gr 777 pellets and 245 gr Powerbelts. Didn't get a chance to use it on deer this year, but it is a fun weapon to shoot. Walmart in our area had some great deals on guns too. I picked up my Mossberg 935 for $390 and my boss picked up a Mossberg 500 rifled slug gun for $198! Those were some absolute steals...Wish all of the area Walmarts had gun depts!!!!
wtnhunt
Our Walmarts have been sold out of everything for a week or better. Triple seven here was down to $11 a can. It was at $21 a can last time I was in, but they had about 30 left. There were about 15 or so cans left when I was in there this morning at the $11 price, they just got marked down yesterday. I bought 3 of them. Should keep me shooting for a little while:D:D. If it were not for the hazardous materials shipping charges, I would have bought more and offered to ship you some Chris, but would probably end up costing more to ship it than the powder costs. Ripper
I was using 777 for the past few years and like you, tried the American Pioneer powder ( Jim Shockey's Gold) and was amazed at how clean it was. After several shots, the cleaning patch came out slightly colored. With my 777 the same patch is black after the first shot. I am sold on it by have made a change, I use to use 100 grains of 777 but now use 150 grains of Shockey's Gold. I'm not sure if it's just me but I don't feel it has the punch that 777 has but it sure is a lot cleaner. I've switched.
horst
Just thinking about when we were shooting the other day.I have to say I did notice the pellets werent very uniform, most slid down the barrel nicely but every 4th or 5 th one would rub the edges of the barrel and have to be pushed down withthe ramrod. Another thing I was going to mention and forgot about was kinda strange. When they were shooting and I was standing off to the side you could see a trail of smoke from the barrel, it would go out like 20 ft or better, its hard to explain but Ive never seen one do it before. It was a real thin trail of smoke that would shoot out in a straight line from the gun, almost like the sabot was burning or had powder stuck to it or something :confused:The closest I can think to describe it would be like a military tracer round or something, it seemed to dissapear as soon as the sabot and bullet would seperate:confused:
brownie65
I just bought 2 jugs of 777 at wal-mart for $11 each. They had several other things on clearance I picked up. They have 2 kodiaks left & have $90 on them, also have a Omega marked down to $185. I thought about offering them $150 for the Omega. I might do that yet. Would make a great Christmas present for my boy.

Would make a great Christmas present for my boy. That is a great price on the omega. They marked down a lot of stuff here, but the muzzleloaders they have left have still not been marked down. If they had the omega at that price here, I would definitely buy one.
Guest flstc2
Our walmart quit carrying firearms a few years ago. I thought they all quit carrying them. Im waiting for a traditions pursuit to go on sale here in SE iowa. There isnt much competition so the prices dont vary a lot. Will most likely have to buy on internet. I would sure rather feel it in my hand before buying. I have a thunderbolt but I really like the break down style. Good hunting, dan
