Guest CSRoth
Was wondering if anyone has had any luck with shed hunting here in Ohio? We've been shed hunting and have had some luck..we've found a few sheds..but nothing spectacular... Any tips? Chrissie
Tominator
Yep, we've had OK success in the last few years. Not KANSAN or Saskcatchecan'tspellit luck, but we find one or two every year. A good year for us is say, 5. Tips? Hmmmm, bedding areas, sometimes food sources like corn fields, trails. There's one area Ohiobucks and I have found sheds in every year for 3 years now I think. NiteRunner
Ohio sheds are so small why even bother looking? Lol I've had no luck finding any yet. Got a Pic of one still packing, hoping that he'll drop them somewhere easy for me though.

WHISKEYSWAMP
I haven't looked yet... usually wait until mid to late February before I start. I manage to find a couple every year but it takes a lot of walking, good eye sight, and a lot of luck.
Tominator
I saw a buck that got hit on the road Monday morning. It still had both sides. It looked to be a 1.5 year old 8 pt.
Guest CSRoth
still seing alot of bucks. Even saw one chasing a doe about a week ago.saw three bucks and three does in a field all together one half rack. The guys who work on one of the farms we hunt saw four good bucks and eight does running together still all have horns. Also saw a pretty good eight point in my back yard about a week ago probably about 18 inches wide or so still has both sides. Then a couple days ago saw a small eight point still chasing , chased a doe across two shelves wouldnt leave her alone. Might drop late like last year i had 7 bucks on january 31st still had horns and one that had already shed.

Ohiobucks
I haven't seen a rack buck in quite sometime, but I really haven't been looking to hard either. It's dark on the way to work and more often than not it's been dark on the way home as well. Late Feb / early March is a good time to get out and look around. Guest CSRoth
what materials are good for a antler trap seeing a ton of bucks in my back yard, hate to even go look for sheds seing so many bucks. I keep corn out all year they eat about 50 pounds a day. would like to put a antler trap out to see what happens. saw a pretty good eight point a few days ago probably 17-18 inches wide. Google "antler trap" and you'll get a few plans. I put out a rudimentary one a few years ago with no luck. The rabbits liked me though. hoytman26
Just a mesh screen is what I made, I welded a post on each side of the screen to stick it in the ground. The screen is like 4x4. One year I put the bucket with corn in it next to a thick bush and I got a shed that way.

Funny, I typed this less than a week ago and just saw a buck this past weekend chasing a small doe around a picked beans field behind my house. There were quite a few deer in the field, he was the only racked buck I saw.

fenderhunt4
my last trail cam pics had about 5-6 small bucks that were half-racks. photos were from about a week ago already. i think that cold weather we've been having has something to do with it too.
