Guest SRA
this buck should've been mine....i missed a golden oportunity on Nov. 3rd this past archery season. I had him at 7 yds. and made a bad hit on him...:(...he pulled thru ok and would have made it but some punks on the neighboring farm (where tresspassing:mad:) drove him out during gun season and shot him....still had my arrow hanging loosely from him:o....i agree...it was my fault, but why do some friggin' poachers get him?? he scored 143"....nice buck. Hardwood_HD
that just stinks.. where did you hit him?
Tominator
Sorry to hear that. Is the "punk" the one holding him in the photo? In Ohio we have an anonymous call in system that the DNR will investigate suspected poachers.

wtnhunt
That is about how my luck seems to go Scott, that is a shame. How did you find out they poached the deer, and also wonder the same as Chris, is the "punk" the one in the pic?

How did you find out they poached the deer, and also wonder the same as Chris, is the "punk" the one in the pic? no...that "punk" is my cousin.......he just went to visit the taxidermist after all this took place to see the rack and take some pics. He asked the taxidermist about where the kids shot him..he just kind of gave him a vague description where the buck was shot....(the taxidermist is related to the kids that shot him:rolleyes:).....the only reason i found it out was my neighbor leaked the info....it wasn't on my land, but if it was... oh well....once again this would'nt had happened if I had made a good shot... stringpicker
Sorry to hear about that man. That is really hard. I hate poachers, they are good for nothing. They make ethical hunters look bad and are reckless and irresponsible. rhine16
I remember that buck from the summer when you were posting pics of him. He sure is nice. The bad shot happens to us all.
bonehuntr
Best advice to you is don't let it eat you up. It does happen to all of us and if it hasn't you havn't been hunting very long. Looks like you have the genetics on your farm to grow some nice bucks and that means you will have more chances. Just learn from your mistakes. jcs3344
great buck to bad you couldnt have put it threw the heart cause that would be a heck of a deer with a bow, but hey atleast you figured the deer out and got the chance to kill him, how far away was the deer killed from where you shot it ? just wondering how far it traveled? Guest yoders_hideaway
Do you not practice very much with your equipment? The shot should be a given if you were familiar with your bow. At least the suspected poacher hit the kill zone! Practice!

Missed160
It really stinks to miss a slam dunk, especially on a deer like that. One bright side is at least you know it didn't die in a swamp somewhere.. One other piece of good news, looks like one one of the photo's you have another nice deer to hunt next year.. Do you know if that one made it through the season?
GobblerBuster618
well we all know big deer make people make marginal shots. it happens to everyone no matter what yardage. Sorry to hear that it came to an end like that. Hope next season goes better!
