preacherman
we use heated "sweet oil" and then put part of a cotton ball in our ear to hold the stuff in. You can buy "sweet oil" at Wal Mart. Seems to help us, when we have that problem.
Southerngirl
I have some sweet oil around here somewhere, I'll have to look for it. I have a homemade garlic/olive oil concoction in his ear right now.
punkinslinger
Try this ...take a cotton ball and smear it with Vicks Vaporub and stick in the ear. My Mom always did this for me as a child and at 45 I still do it. I had many many bouts with ear aches and infections all my life.
nativetexan
Ear candles. My buddy swears by them. His daughter had chronic ear infections and antibiotics were tearing her up. He uses them twice a month on her and they haven't been back to the doc for years for an ear infection. The mild heat from the candle melts the ear wax and lets it flow out naturally reducing pressure inside the ear, which also relieves any discomfort from an infection. I haven't tried them, but I am going to because I use foam ear plugs at work and over time they push the wax deeper into my ear and eventually I can't hear. You'll need a paper plate (protects the head from any wax that may drip down) and a pair of scissors (to cut off the excess as it burns down), and do it outside. http://www.ear-candles.net/ If you have a GNC store by you, they sell them. Or just about any treehuggin herbal store has them too. http://www.gnc.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=ear%20candles&origkw=ear%20candles&sr=
wtnhunt
Usually when I get sinus or ear infections that will not go away within a relatively short time frame I end up having to get an antibiotic.
RangerClay
Call your local pharmacy pronto! They will have over the counter meds till you can get some antibiotices.
Tominator
My mom always gave us ear drops, don't know what was in them. I used to get earaches all the time. Our pediatrician said to warm up some cooking oil and drop that in if you can't get to a doc when they strike.
Southerngirl
yeah, I know heat is good. The olive oil garlic stuff you heat then let it cool down and put in the ear but it ain't working very good right now
TexasDeerHunter
A little olive oil and vinegar......It also helps as a preventative, just apply some in the ear with a dropper before and after swimming.
Southerngirl
Call your local pharmacy pronto! They will have over the counter meds till you can get some antibiotices. you were right! The pharmasist showed me some stuff that he said should knock it out. I also got a bottle of sweet oil to try in between the doses of the other. I tried the cotton ball / vicks thing but Frankie refused to leave anything in his ear. A lady at Rite aid also said to blow cig smoke in his ear??

Deb
Dad always blew cigar smoke in my ear and it did feel good. Don't know if it did anything medicinal or not.
DU_man_84
when i was a child, i had some issues with my ears, caused by a not so good doctor, and i always suffered from ear infections, constantly i had them, mom would always try things to make them better but nothing worked as good as the doctor prescribed ear drops, aspirin helped sometimes, tell your son to hang in their till monday
LifeNRA
Sounds like you should see the doctor ASAP. Other than putting a warm compress on the infected ear and maybe a OTC product! Personally, I wouldn't use anything other than what the pharmacy or doctor would prescribe! Nerve damage to the ears can NOT be reversed! There are several other things that can cause frequent ear aches. http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/ear-infection/ear-infections-treatment-overview
doog3
ya leaving ear infections untreated can lead to some hearing loss my kids had many of them as well as very high temps as the pain of a ear infection comes in waves and it also can have a build up of fuilds which can affect hearing and cause severe pain, our youngest son had to have tubes placed in his ears to keep the fuild from building up again so go to er or a walk in clinic
Southerngirl
If it's still bugging him tomorrow he will be goping to the Dr. I was just looking for something to ease him during the weekend.
