Ladies...what guns?

Hey ladies, wondering what gun, specifically shotgun, do you shoot? I currently shoot one and my only gun, a Mossberg 500 20 gauge that I got used when I started hunting 9 years ago. I think it may be time soon for a new shotgun...I feel like it isn't shooting as well as it used to. I like Mossbergs but was wondering about Remington, etc..

My current gun I hunt deer, turkey and small game with, I just switch out chokes, so if I got a new gun, I'd want to use it for all three or maybe just deer and turkey. And I want to stick with a 20 gauge.

Do you shoot and "average" size gun or a youth sized gun? Mine is the regular Mossberg 500, and I almost think f it was shorter, it'd be better.

So let me hear what you ladies shoot and any ideas.

I have two shotguns that I use mainly.

Remington Model 870 SPS-T 20-Gauge Camo - I use this one mainly for turkey, but I have a modified choke and #6 upland shells that I use in it for small game/upland hunting sometimes. This gun is not a youth gun, but is build smaller than other Model 870 turkey guns. It fits me perfectly and recoil is minimal.

Remington Model 870 Express .410 - I use this for small game and upland. This gun doesn't have screw-in chokes and the barrel is a Full choke. I love this gun and the recoil is not noticable at all. This gun is pretty old I don't think they offer the Model 870 Express in .410 anymore.

I currently don't have any shotguns that are setup to hunt deer with slugs. If I was to run out right now and pick a gun specifically for deer hunting it'd be either a Remington Model 870 Express Shurshot Synthetic Cantilever 20-Gauge, Remington Model 870 Express Synthetic Deer 20-Gauge, or Mossberg 500 Slugster 20-Gauge.

The great thing these days is that technology and specifics available on guns make a shotgun fit a lady hunter a lot easier. Making for better recoil, better comfort, improved consistency and that creates an overall better experience shooting shotguns.

My go to gun is a Winchester Super X3. They are really lightweight. It is the fastest firing semi-auto on the market today.

Also, I usually pack a back up on big waterfowl trips. My Browning Gold Hunters are excellent shotguns too. I have a specific turkey gun with a 24" barrel but I use it for waterfowl also. Shorter barrel makes it easier for me to swing and especially manuver if I am hunting out of a boat blind, pit or ground blind.

There is a lot of great guns on the market. It all depends what fits and feels good to you.

Now over and unders...that's a whole other story in itself! :)

I shoot a Remington 870 Express Magnum 12 ga pump for everything. I'm looking at getting a new Beretta 12 ga semi-auto for next year though. I also have a Remington 870 Express 16 ga pump in the cabinet.

I love the 870's!

For squirrel hunting I shoot a Browning A-5 Sweet 16. Boy, does that thing get babied...! :D Still looks brand new too!

When it comes to waterfowl, I shoot a Browning Silver 12 gauge. Talk about a nice gun.... lethal as all get out. :D:)

The first year I went after the seaducks, I shot my fiance's Browning Gold 10 gauge! Too bad it's so heavy.. I'd use that baby all the time. With the extra weight, it doesn't kick nearly as much as my Silver.

  • 2 weeks later...

I use my .338 browning A-bolt for everything except sheep, and varmint.

The .22 is essential on the trapline...and for calling coyote, and for hunting ptarmigan and grouse.

Remington is an excellent brand,I feel...both on the range, and in the field.....I know there are many shotgun seasons down there...but is it shotgun only????(for deer??)....give the .270 and 7mm calibers a try. The long-range, flat trajectories of these ballistics have proven their worth to many sheep and goat hunters up here,even for 300-450 yd range shots. it would be an excellent size caliber for deer, it would seem;

.....Then, there are the .50 and .54 cal. muzzleloaders......the smell is exciting and intoxicating to me.(plus, the delay...if shooting flintlock)...

By the way....since I am pretty ignorant about shotguns....how do you get all those little annoying bits of shot out when dressing???
