NS whitetail
Yesterday afternoon, me and my almost 12 year old daughter loaded the Arctic Cat on the truck and took off for the camp to spend the night. Last night, she kicked my butt at Guitar Hero :D ( ya, we had to take the PS2 ), we watched some TV and pigged out on tater chips and pepsi and then I watched the Habs get slaughtered by the Rangers after she turned in. ( threw that in for you Luke :D ) This morning, I got up and fixed us a breakfast of bacon, eggs, hashbrowns & toast and then we hit the trail. The railway tracks were torn up years ago here in Nova Scotia and the last few years, the ATV groups ( I belong to one ) have been turning them into designated ATV trails. When the trails are all done, you will be able to travel around the whole province of NS on an ATV. It's going to be great. We put 140 miles on the Cat today. NS whitetail
Awesome!!! The railway/ATV trail sounds like a really sweet arrangement. It is Grant Things are shaping up real well, alot of the trail system has or is being worked on. The railway bed is being widened and the rough spots smoothed over, the bridges are being fixed up and signs are being erected ( warning signs, stop signs at road intersections etc. ) when it is complete, it will be a boost to local economies --- hotels, gas stations, stores etc. will benefit from the ATV users. I am pretty sure that the snowmobile trails in Ontario are geared like this -- maybe shaun knows
Shaun_300
That looks like fun Lewis! There's quite a few railway beds that they've turned into snowmobile trails here in Ontario. I went to highschool in the next town west of here which is 15 miles, the snowmobile trail is a railway bed between here and there. Longggg and straaaaaight... Used to make it in 8-10 minutes on the skidoo if I was really scootin. They're starting to use the snowmobile trails as designated ATV trails in the summer here. In the winter ATV's are not allowed on them though. There's over 50,000km (30,000km) of groomed trails in the province, I could jump on the sled and drive to Manitoba if I wanted to. Shaun_300
LOL good timing on my part eh? Yep if they'll be like our snowmobile trails they'll be just like litte highways. All numbered, little stop signs, speed limit signs, curve signs, signs telling you how far it is to the next town.

That is what the goal is here Shaun , when it's complete, you will be able to travel the entire province of NS and hopefully have access into New Brunswick, then to Quebec and Ontario -- As long as there are places to stay and gas along the way, I wouldn't think twice about a 4-5 day wheeler ride
Bob LeBlanc
Lewis, I thought they are made off-limits to 'wheelers' once the snow flies...property of the snowmobilers, so-to-speak? I'm pretty sure they are in Cape Breton...Can't have 4-wheelers tearin' up their snowmobile tracks... Bob
Shaun_300
Yeah there's quite a few places to get gas around here, you don't have to worry too much. Heck I even see sleds at Tim Hortons when I drive by, used to do that myself!

Bob The main railway beds aren't Bob, ( don't know about CB ) but there are designated sled trails only in places , I am pretty sure that there are way more ATV's than snowmobiles in NS, the biggest problem is that the ATVer's aren't as organized as the sleders YET anyway
