crossing the US/Canadian border?

I'll be heading up to Ontario in 3 weeks for an ice fishing trip and I was told that although I won't need a passport to cross the border I will need my driver's license, a copy of my birth certificate, and my Social Security card.

Well, I lost my SS card year's ago and never bothered to get a new card. I also didn't realize it's going to take so long to get a new card printed so there's a good chance I won't have it by the time of my trip.

Has anyone crossed the US/Canandian border within the past few months? If so, we'll I be OK, or is there some other form of ID I can use to cross?

I was just in Ontario right around New Years and we went across Peace Bridge into Canada. We took our birth certificates and drivers license with us and got in and out fine. In fact they didn't even ask for the birth certificates, just for drivers licenses. They actually questioned us more going into Canada than they did entering back into the US.

Not to hijack the post but, ya'lls beer up there is downright expensive!!! 2 or 3 times what it is down here in the US. So muggsy if your gonna have a few be prepared to pay!!

Yep! Plus the Canadian beer is two 2 or 3 times better tasting that the Yuengling stuff you PA boys drink. Have you ever heard the story about the guy and a girl in a canoe!!!

I go to Canada quite often. The DL and BC should be fine to get you in and out. HOWEVER! There are those days when you become one of those "random stops".

I can hear them yelling now, "Full cavilty search!!!! Some guy named Tominator said these guys were coming through.":D

Yeah but it's 2-3 times as better! :D:D ;)

Eric you shouldn't need anything but a drivers license and birth certificate, as long as you have photo ID with you, you shouldn't have a problem.

you will soon need a passport. i'd sure check out the web site both ways and be sure. we've needed dl & bc for the past year. must be an original bc, with a hospital/state stamp. no photocopies. if you have a passport, take it.

if anyone in your group has EVER in their lifetime, had a drunk dribing charge, they will not get into canada

Where are you headed?

Lake Simcoe for perch and walleye. Should be fun, but if I'm making the drive, I'd prefer to fish for pike- but that's not my call.

Anyway, believe me, there's plenty of American beer that's not watered down and foamy- you guys just have to stay away from the junk, popular stuff. But Canadian beer is good...and plenty of it (and deer chili) will be had by all. Should be a blast, I'll post some pics.
