I've been looking into getting a new gun for turkey hunting as some of you know. I was woundering what is better to use 3in. or 3.5in.? A buddy of mine said that he shot 3in. last year and won't hunt with them again. He said to use 3.5 in., because there is more shot and you can reach out there further. What do you guys think?

If you're considering a change, go ahead and get the 3 1/2" gun.

As far as which is better........you won't know until you pattern the gun thoroughly. Chances are, the 3 1/2" will throw a denser pattern than the 3". But, then again, it may not. Only patterning will tell you for sure. wink.gif

Re: What is better to shoot 3in. or 3.5?

I have the Mossberg 835 3.5. I use it for everything. Turkey with 3.5 #4 Hevyshot in the spring, the same or 00 buck in 3" for coyotes in the fall, and 2.75 in #7 and 8 for dove and quail in the winter. It's the most versatile gun in the safe and gets the most work, too!

In regards to turkey...I switched to, as previously mentioned, hevyshot in 3.5. I will never go back, ever. There is nothing like it, IMO. I kill yotes at 50 yards with the stuff and the turkey don't stand a chance even further out. The 3.5's simply pack more of a wallup and if your shoulder is willing to pay the price, why not?
