hoytman26
Have you guys ever used a soft tape for scoring a buck? I know they say to use a steel 1/4" tape, but I was wondering do you think a soft tape would give you less of a mass measurement?
Bowtech_archer07
My buddy and I scored a buck one time with a soft tape, and we came up with the same score as someone using a steel tape. I would think at worst, you might lose 1/2 in. total, but I don't see any disadvantage to using one for just a rough score.
Canuck2
The main thing to watch out for with a soft tape is stretch. If you pull too tight, you could be recording fewer inches than there really are. Another good way to measure is by using a non-stretch type of string and then carefully measuring the string on a steel tape.
Straight Shooter
Use a non-stretching string, its easier to maneuver around the antlers as well as a more acurrate reading for the lengths. Measurers use a steel cable for most of the measrements then lay the cable on a tape to measure the length/circumferences. jmo
