Strut10
Yesterday our little guy, Braden, (10 months old) had facial surgery at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. Everything went beautifully and he's home, doing fine. So around 2:00 yesterday when he was out of recovery and into a room, I ran out and got some lunch and brought some back for Momma. As I came back to the room in the hospital, I noticed a roomful of folks next door, but paid no mind. I stepped into Braden's room with Momma's lunch and she goes "the Penguins are in the next room and they're coming here next!!" It wasn't registering until she said "you know......Pittsburgh Penguins??" About then 5 young guys come strolling into the little room and start introducing themselves by first name. I immediately recognized a couple by face. Had to look up a couple later in the yearbook they left. Ty Conklin, Marc-Andre Fleury, Brooks Orpik, Ryan Whitney and Adam Hall. Very nice guys....every one. We all shook hands and we told them what Braden was in for and that he was doing well. They brought him an autographed yearbook, a poster and a BIG fleece Penguins blanket. Very nice!! Then I told them my oldest daughter (Lilmissdngerous in the forums) was going to have a fit she wasn't there. She's the world's biggest Pens fan. I told them she had just turned in her art class project the day before........a portrait of Sidney Crosby. Asked them if they'd mind autographing a page in my Mrs.' tablet for her. No problem. They all signed it to her and one of the guys stepped out into the hall and came back with a Pens ballcap. They all signed that for her too. Then we all shook hands again and we thanked them for stopping and what they were doing for all the kids that day. We were very impressed by those guys and very touched to see them doing something so thoughtful for the kids. Turns out.....the WHOLE Pens team was in the hospital yesterday roaming different floors. Only kick in my pants is that we had Momma's camera out and ready to take pics. But the guys were so easy to talk to.......we completely forgot it was laying there. muggs
Wow! That's really cool (good thing you got back in time too). Pro hockey players are definitely the most down to Earth pro athletes out there. With guys like Bonds and Pacman Jones, it's a shame the NHLers don't get more exposure and followers. They do it the right way. Glad to her your son is doing good.
