Griz
Man I must of been tired. I don't even remember coming home yesterday evening and fallin asleep and to top it all off I thought today was Wed. until I discovered this morning that today is Friday... Man...What a guy won't do for money... I fill alittle better though. I have a bit of a headache from not sleepin'. I fill like I have been beatin' with a ball bat but other then that I'm ready to go again...I guess... Here's yall a few pics of some newborns. For some reason my camera isn't taking pictures real good. Why...I don't no... Plus when I take say 2 or 3 pictures. I have to change batteries in it...Man I would think that the batteries would last alot longer then that... May be time for me to read the book (Which I never have) on it and find out whats going on... The babies that you see here were all just born. Course the momma's didn't want me to close. As of right now I have 25 calves on the ground out of 300. Knock on wood...So far I had to pull 1 calf. The calf was stillborn and coming out backwards so needless to say the heifer needed help and fast. So Doctor Griz saved the day...LOL... Momma is doing just fine. I had to start her prescription of hay and cubes and plenty of water ASAP...LOL... I had one heifer Wed. night (That was today...Or was that four days ago......LOL...) have twins. She did real good with them at first and I thought cool deal. But I knew in the back of my mind that she would take the stronger one and dump the weaker one. I have seen them do this a thousand times. Weeeel, I was right. So now I have one here at the house being bottle raised... I named him Bart...LOL... Well folks I hope you enjoy the pics. I will have some more for ya before to long... I'm out the door and runnin again... See yall soon... Have a great day... Griz... You can see that momma is not none to happy with me being there. She was tellin' me to get back or else...That's my Baby...

MCH
We've raised several calfs with a bottle and like Andrea said, they usually die of natural causes. We've got a partially blind cow that we've raised from a bottle in a pen right now. Her name is Butterfly and she's on her second calf. toddyboman
I know what your going through.....well kinda....we don't have or want that many cows.....we usually have a dozen or so calves. The bottle feed is fun at first then pain.... My mom said when she was a kid they bottle feed 2 calves on year and my grandad(her dad) named them Meat and Money. lol :D

wtnhunt
Some good looking calves there and nice pics Dale. Have had a few that we thought were big enough to have twins here on a few occasions, but never have had twins.
Grant-KS
Angus cows really have a bad attitude when you get close to calves, don't they? I flat out (literally) got run over by one notorious one when we went out to check on her new calf. Thankfully, none of her hooves touched down with myself between them and the ground, but it scared the poo outta me (not literally).

Southerngirl
andrea~ when you live on a farm you get used to that sorta thing but there is nothing sweeter than a bottle fed calf. and yeah, very seldom do they keep both calves when they twin

Southerngirl
do yall band the boys? if so don't you just love getting knocked on your butt by a mad momma?
Ambuscher
We raise simmentals and have never had the problem of them leaving one of their twins. We have a small herd so we don't have alot of them (2 live sets in the last 2 years) but both cows raised their twins.
BowJoe
I worked for a guy banding calves one day and we worked from sun up to sun down. I think he had around 150. I remember I almost had fried veal when one of the calves got turned around trying to follow her momma out the chute and I lowered the gate on him. He didn't like it and got his butt going forward and his head pointing backwards. I eventually had to manually turn him around and he kicked my knee in the process. I got satisfaction when I banded that little guy. We had one momma that didn't like being squeezed into the chute and she reared up over the top bar of the chute. Bent the top bar and scared the crap outta me because I was right beside her when she did it. I still loved the work though.

Southerngirl
poor calves getting born in the snow makes them tougher though

Have pretty well always done the same here. Kind of helps if you can find the calves where the mommas think they have left them hidden. Last few years we have just left our bull calves unbanded though, they been bringing just as much at the stockyard.
