Missed160
So Bush has annouced the idea of a Economic Stimulus plan, that based on the little info he gave out, sounds like a "Rebate" check to each worker for $800ish.. Another bandaid fix attempt, that we will all end up paying more for in a couple years.. That said, IF you get a check as proposed, will you go out & spend it as he wants you to? Mine is going directly to the bank!
Tominator
I guess it depends on your economic philosophy. Personally I believe capitalism works better than socialism. I like the fact that I'll get more of my money to spend how I see fit. I'm married so we stand to get $1600 back, and to be honest, yeah, I'll spend it. It will probably go into my daughter's mouth in the form of braces.

Ravin R10 man
Sit on it all ya want..it wont hatch..LOL Thats not the intention of the plan..if thats what your are going to do, then maybe you should not get a check.
Strut10
Tax rebate worked the first time around. People who end up with $800 of "free" money don't, as a rule, wallpaper their bathrooms with it. They spend it.........stimulating the economy. BowJoe
Heck yeah I'm going to spend it. I'm looking at it as a bonus to my tax return. I also look at it as rent for the next few months. That helps us in the long run especially if we are moving soon. What I love about it even more is that if you don't pay taxes like a lot of the lazy pieces of crap sitting on their butts collecting free money while they knock up every piece of trash they see then you don't get a check. That's the part I like. Giving something to the working family. And hey, if you don't want your check then I'll gladly take it off your hands. stevebeilgard
sure i'll spend mine. yours in the bank will make 3% interest, just a little less than inflation. not my idea of a good plan. the capitalist idea outshines liberalism (socialism, communism, and most of the other "ism's"). and, it's working. it worked when kennedy did it in 1962, it worked when reagan did it in 1988, and it worked when bush did it in 2000. wtnhunt
Dont spend it just yet. So much for compromise eh, heard on the radio this morning the house passed it through, but the senate is holding it up and will likely try to add in some things that will end up with it being veto'd:(. jm23494
It's sad to see politicians speaking about how bad the economy is and how tough it is for the middle class in the country to survive, but yet they are all making more money than an average household will make in two years. Where is the logic in that? Maybe they should realize who actually put them there and give up some of their pay. Here in PA some legislatiors tried to vote themselves a pay raise in the middle of thier terms. Needless to say very few were re-elected when their terms were up. Yeah it would be nice to get some of our hard earned money back from the government. But at the same time we have these overpayed individuals who will waste more money debating the stimulas package than they will give back to the public. Where is the logic with that? From Wikipedia: The annual salary of each Representative is currently $165,200. The Speaker of the House and the Majority and Minority leaders earn more. The Speaker earned $212,100 during the 109th Congress (January 4, 2005-January 3, 2007) while the party leaders earned $183,500 (the same as Senate leaders). The annual salary of each senator, as of 2006, was $165,200; the President pro tempore and party leaders receive $183,500.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Those salary figures are just the base. Congressmen also get X amount for each committee they're on, plus more if they're the chairman, plus more if they are on a joint committee (members from both the House and Senate), plus a generous expense account, plus a 4 day workweek. In other words, they make a lot. Now I don't think what they're making is necessarily out of line, and I'm not opposed to paying an even healthier salary if they do a good job, but some of those people in Washington, well...they're not worth the air they use up every day. TreeStandBowHunter
Just more debt to add to the US...that's the way I see it. This little plan might work initially but we are still going down, way down. You think everyone is going to spend it on the economy? A lot of people are going to use it to pay things off and other things that it is not intended for. I see another 1929 coming in the future. But hey, while we are at it, let's send another billion to Africa and other places. I really wish I could renig on my previous votes. That's all I have to say about that. If you run out and buy a TV that's made in China, did you really do our economy any good? Probably not. Ben
Guest Andrea
McCain is an idiot. He will NOT get my vote. So if he is the Republican nominee that is left.....I won't be voting. Anything for illegal immigrants besides a bus ticket back across the border is WRONG. This election year is the worst since I've been a registered voter. I just hope and pray somehow that Mike Huckabee can hang in there. And not be just the running mate with McCain.

Afraid that is what the dems want to see happen Andrea, and if it does with many in this country we will see a worse outcome than McCain taking the helm. I am not by any means a McCain supporter, but will not be as bad for this country as Clinton or Obama. Talks now are that there is a chance that Huckabee may end up on the ticket with McCain, guess we will see.
OJR
Andrea, by not voting, you are insuring that Hillary or Obama gets in! Do you really want that?? McCain has his share of things that I do not agree with, but those other 2 are way beyond anything that I believe in!
TreeStandBowHunter
It's funny what the media can get people to think:rolleyes: I don't care if I am regisered republican, I will not vote for McCain. I'll be voting, but not for him.
