NYBUCK
I just received this letter via e-mail from the NYBOWHUNTERS. I am going to make a bunch of copies and put them in all of the bow shops. If you would all do the same and then pick them up and mail them to the NYBOWHUNTERS they said they would present them to DEC ( crotty). I am not sure what difference it will make, but it can't hurt. Get them in your bow shops and to every bowhunter that hunts NY. NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Erin Crotty 625 Broadway Avenue, 14th Floor Albany, New York 12233-1011 Dear Commissioner Crotty, As a multi-use big game hunter that participates in a variety of deer seasons with both a bow and firearms, I am writing to you in opposition to your agency’s proposal to place a muzzleloading season in the middle of the archery-only season in the southern zone. There is a time and place for every weapon and the use of the muzzleloader during the early archery season in not one of them. Deer become extremely disturbed after a firearm’s season, making them difficult to effectively hunt with a bow and arrow. The proposed October muzzleloader season in the middle of the archery-only season will dramatically alter the behavior of deer, resulting in bow hunters having an inferior hunting experience as well as a diminished opportunity for success. Today’s modern muzzleloader is comparable to a single shot rifle with an effective range of two hundred yards or more, far more effective than a rifled barreled shotgun. I can effectively hunt with a muzzleloader during the regular firearm seasons as well as during the special muzzleloading seasons for a total of 30 days in the southern zone and up to 65 days in the northern zone. If there is truly a need to expand the muzzleloader season, please accomplish this during the late season after the regular, southern zone season ends. If your agency is serious about increasing hunter satisfaction and expanding big game opportunities, open the early archery season on October 1st (not the 1st Saturday in October as proposed) and always open the regular season on the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving (not the 3rd Saturday in November as proposed). This would expand my bow hunting opportunities by 1.4 weekends on average and allow me to begin the regular firearm’s season on a Saturday during Thanksgiving week instead of the current Monday opening date that can vary between Thanksgiving week and the week prior to Thanksgiving. I hope that your agency will take these recommendation seriously and modify your deer season proposal for the benefit of the entire hunting community. Sincerely yours,

rossman
Re: Letter for the DEC from NYBOWHUNTERS Here's an idea. Let's start a contest. Who ever gets the most signitures, gets a free pack of broadheads of their choice. For example, if nybuck wins and he shoot muzzy 100 grain, the rest of us in the contest pitches in to buy him a pack of 100 grain muzzy's. It will make things interesting a give us extra incentive to get signatures. Just a thought. Let me know what you guys think!!!!--rossman
