VTbowman
Just got my hands on a sweet custom 250 Savage Encore rifle bbl. Full bull fluted. (OTT built) I have no experience with this cal and was wondering how well it would do on VT deer? If it will not then I suppose I can use the Encore 500 S&W handgun I have. LOL Thanks. Strut10
With a properly constructed bullet the .250 would make a dandy deer round.

I've never heard of it, but here's an article and balisitics chart. http://www.gunnersden.com/index.htm.250-3000savage.html http://www.pacinfo.com/~dropinsator/chart2.htm#250%20Savage

Guest onesonek
The 250 Savage was quite popular as a deer round prior to the advent of the .243. A rather mild pressure round is capable of performance beyond factory loads. I run the AI version in a 16" encore pistol. It's pretty impressive really. With 110 gr Accubonds it'll shoot as far as I care to at a deer with a pistol. I know I'm posting on an AI and not totally within the post topic, but just thought it might be of some interest. Albeit mine isn't really your typical 250 AI, as I did mine on 307 brass and left a longer neck. But here's a few pics anyhow. I think the standard .250 would easily beat it in a handloaded rifle, leastwise velocity Dave
VTbowman
I got my box yesterday and was blown away with all the reloading stuff he sent too. Dies, brass, and about 5 or so different weight projectiles. All that with an OTT 24" full bull fluted 250 Sav, forend, and 6 hole base. $410 Man I scored huge on this deal. I just ordered a stinger stock set in Timber camo and have a 6.5-20x50 piece of glass for the top. It should be quiet the little demon when I am done. snapper
I have an older Ruger M77 in .250 savage! Great deer cal. and great varmint cal. Very little felt recoil, fast, flat shooting gun. This gun has taken many, many deer...wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for a deer cal.
OJR
I used to have one and it was great for deer! No problems at all!
