Guest tkiser24263
My girlfriend is wanting to start deer hunting next season. She has only recently started shooting and needs a good beginners rifle, probably one without much recoil. I currently hunt with a .270, and I was wondering what calibers might be good for her. Thanks
HuntingInMaine
I would start her off with a .22. Let her get comfortable with shooting and then start moving her up to higher calibers. Just because she's a woman doesn't mean she won't want something with a little kick once she gets going. I'm not really big, but I use a .30-06 for deer hunting and the kick doesn't bother me a bit. Guest Andrea
Welcome!!! I started out with a .243 then went to a .308 and now am using a .270.
FlGirl
I think a .243 is the best beginner's caliber. I hunted with a .243 for years and harvested many deer with it. My sister in law decided this year she wanted to start hunting. We had her shoot several different calibers and let her choose which she wanted to use. She choose my .243 hands down. mrswtnhunt
I use a .243 and always have. It gets the job done and doesn't kick much at all.
Alisha
Like said several times before, start her with a .243. They are flat out the way to go for a beginner. I killed several deer with one and then 3 years ago I stepped it up to a .270. Don't start her out with something that will scare her. That's the last thing you wanna do! BowtechsWife
I would also suggest starting with the .
