preacherman
to do! Reading another post about people taking advantage of those who own land brings me to a question that I have wanted to ask; but now proded to ask by this post. I have an older gentleman who has invited me to hunt with him all year this year. I have gone several times, with his permission, even when he is not home. He showed me a rifle that he had where the sling had broken. I went and bought him a nice leather rifle sling, sorta like the one he had and gave it to him. I have always lended him a hand with anything that he has needed done. I have always called him and thanked him for letting me hunt with him or went by and spent a little time with him, thanking him. But my question is, I have been wanting to do a little something more for him for letting me hunt with him. What would you recommend a good thing? A gift certificate to one of his favorite resturants or something else? Please give me insight on what might be a good thing and might leave a good taste in his mouth. Money is kind of tight around our house right now because of taxes. We are "self employed" so we have to pay quite a bit every year; but I do want to do something for him. Suggestions? Thanks, Scott
archerjg
Why not fix him and his wife a nice meal and have them over for dinner to thank him. If someone let's us hunt their land we usually either fix them a nice dinner or take them some baked goods along with a thank you card. johnf
And If you have a vacuum sealer maybe you could prepare some meals with the venison you harvested and seal them up for some easy diners for him and the mrs.

wtnhunt
Saw where you posted this in the lounge Scott. Would agree with Orlan and the others here that a good home cooked meal would be a great way to say thanks.
WVdeerhunter
Every one's right but be a good friend to people means alot. Stop by often out of season just to say hi and so time ones you start hunting with some one after a while they wont go with out you. Good luck

Some older guys are uncomfortable accepting gifts....you gotta read him. Maybe drop off a ham or something like that some great Wisconsin maple syrup. gift basket with cheese and meats If they don't eat out alot, the gift cert may not be what they're looking for. Just ideas....not sure what's best.
Dubie
I'd agree with the dinner idea. Maybe whip up some of whatever you hunted there. If people were all more like that, I'd still invite people to hunt my land. But all I ever get is cut up trees, rutted up fields, garbage left all over, and not even so much as a "see you later' until next season rolls around. Dubie
Well, from what I've seen of the members of this board, I'd invite anyone of you to hunt my place if your in for some manitoba bucks
slughunter
Im kinda in the same boat as you. The management farm I sometimes talk about is owned by my best freind/and racing partners family. His dad overall is the guy that gives me permission to hunt out there. so after every season i try to do something nice for him because he does a lot for me. Most years my family would just buy him a big case of his favorite beer. But this year I did something different, I paid for him and his wife to have a really nice dinner, just the two of them. They really seemed to appreciate it. So I guess just do whatever you think the person would like the most. -shane

I would throw this in on top of a dinner of some kind. Surprise him with a gift subscription in your name.
