silvertip_co
Nice deer. Otto make a nice mount and soem good eating. Never had an interest in TX hunts but I seen so many good ones on tv the last few weeks for axis and others that my interest is well...piqued. I may have to try it one day. kuntryboy
first of all this was my first axis. and it was not one of those caned hunts. the company my step dad works for leases 10,000 achers in the hill country out side of uvalde.they lease the property for clients to come and whitetail hunt . after the season they allow a few of the emploies to come and hunt the exiotics on the ranch. the property owner would like all of them gone and get the place back to the native animals .the place is completly free range and so are the bordering ranches.there are no guides and your basicily on your own, which is the best way to hunt anyway.there is a ranch hand that lives there and takes care of the place, but he only showed up at DINNER TIME!! I killed this one the first evening there and over a two day hunt my step dad and I killed seven axis deer and one audad ram! we are already planning next years trip! Adjam5
Nice buck congrats. Cool story too. Are they bigger than Texas deer? My son and I will be not far from San Antonio in the middle of March for Rios, but Axis deer is part of the hunt also. We too will be hunting free range animals. They should be in hard horn by then. Leo
Some are in hard horn, some are in velvet, year round for axis deer. Their each have their own individual antler cycle. They can be very good sized and bigger than most Texas deer. My Axis weighed 230lbs. The meat is absolutely the best. Axis go nocturnal just like whitetails when over pressured. You'll find out. aksheephuntress
....That deer is beautiful!-one of my favorite-looking.(but I've never gotten to taste one.). Seems like it would be real tender. ...Congradulations!!
