buckmastermn
I have been thinking about getting one of these for a while now but I think I need a little more info from you all. Right now I have a .300 win mag. I really like that gun but it is a little heavy and a bit on the over kill side at times. I reallly like the wide range of hunting opportunities the .25-06 could be used for. Anything from whitetails to coyotes and maybe even a prairie dog or two. if anyone has one please chime in. Thanks
wtnhunt
The .25-06 is a good deer and varmint round, if that is what you are after, would not hesitate to buy one.
snapper
.25-06 is a great cal.....however, you already have a .300 win, it will do anything the .25-06 will do PLUS. No such thing as overkill!
johnf
25-06 will do everything you want to do unless you go to Alaska. It won't break your wallet or your shoulder to shoot it either. Mine is very comfortable to shoot and very accurate. I've never had a deer take a single step after being hit by that gun.
bluelund79
Just traded in my Ruger M77 MII in 25.06 for the Tikka T3. Love that gun much better, better trigger, detachable mag, etc. My advise is when you are looking for your caliber, try all of the guns. My Ruger shot sub 1" groups with 2 types of factory ammo. When I get some decent weather, I'll start the barrel break in on the Tikka. The only other choice when I was looking was the Weatherby, but I'll save that one for when I retire my old 30.06...Good luck, and you'll be real happy with the 25.06. Its has alot of bark and almost no bite...the recoil is almost non-existant!
Guest bjb0326
I have a T/C Encore and one of the barrels is a heavy barrel 25-06 and this is a great caliber and you can hand load yourself alittle heavier 120 gr and it will just about do anything you want. I will tell you when I lived in Minnesota I asked about this caliber and alot of people told me that it was to light for deer but I believe it was personal preference. Good luck and happy hunting.....
stevebeilgard
i had a harry lawson 25-06 with the cochise thumbhole, and i loved it. i made a bad mistake and sold it. great gun, and i'd shoot anything with it. may be just a bit light for elk and moose, and way light for bear.... tped
I've always loved the 25-06 and agree would be a good deer and varmint caliber. Assumming that you only have the 300WM - the 25-06 would be a good compliment to the 300. 300 to handle bears and bigger stuff and the 25-06 for small & medium game. Sounds like a winner to me. Check out the different models as everyone chamgers the 25 and buy the one you like the most within your budget.
husker
i have a 300wsm and a 25-06 love them both, but the 25-06 is miles away the more accurate of the 2. i can get 1.5 inch groups with my 300wsm at 100 yards with the 25-06 all the holes are touching. so in my opinion you can't go wrong with either. Strut10
snapper said: No such thing as overkill! Right on!! My favorite longrange groundhog gun for years (before my 7-STW showed up) was a Model 70 .300 Win Mag loaded with 180 gr. Ballistic Tips. It's actually quite superior to the .25's at the really long distances.
