I hear ya, we had one no show and one other who checked in and has not come back (hasn't even posted on the forums since the begining of november):confused:

These contests aren't just so you can win a prize, they are put in place so you can get to know other members, get an idea of what hunting in different areas is like, and to just talk about your season with teammates. I think we need to figure out some way of making sure people that post here. maybe a multi-phase sign up spred over a month of so (for all contests)

C'mon Craig, tell us how you really feel....:D :D

I'm sorry....maybe we should make it like little league and give everyone who signs up a trophy :p

I have been blanked so far this season. I do have 5 more weeks.:(

It's my worst season in 8 years

big difference between not getting a deer and being a no show for the team. ;)

Yes, I think it ticks us all off, Craig. If they didn't get anything, the least they could do is show up. Another thing that bothers me is folks who don't read the rules. They're so dang simple to follow, and yet, I have to chase people down for clarification, and more pics.

Maybe 50 posts isn't great enough. Maybe we should move it up a notch and a half ;)

The no-shows are the worst, but seeing someone who does enter a deer and getting disqualified, just because the picture was no good, or he didn't post the proper tag pictures, really makes me feel bad, because I want to see everyone get in there, with a good honest score.

It's fun just the same.

I think I'll give any teams with No-shows, the same extra 7 points, that the teams short a team-member get, just to make up for it in a small way.

At the end of the contest, we'll see

Then there are participants that do show up, kill a critter but never post any pics. I can't figure that one out. I'm not sure if that's happened in the deer contest but I know for a fact it has happened in the turkey contest.

Gee Steve...that's a lot of head aches for just a RT ATV. :D

Steve you shouldn't feel bad when you have to disqualify someone because they didn't follow the rules. Heck...joining this forum proves they can read.

I'll preface my statement by saying that I really don't count because I don't participate in the contest, but.............

I've always thought this. Seems to me you'd want dedicated forum members in on the contest, not fly-by-nighters. I'd make the minimum post count 2,000 posts, (you know, all the morons :D) or if they've been a member for a long time, minimum 200 posts a year.

As this forum gets older and older, 50 posts is nothing.

I run into the same problem with the squirrel contest. Too many members ruin the spirit of the idea.

Think that would be ok Steve, so long as you also give the same points to those teams where members never checked back in after the contest was under way. Kind of depends on what you want to call "no shows" I guess. Would imagine there are probably a few mia members out there who never checked back in.

Yep, it happens alright Al. That as well as members not following the rules and not taking the pics like they are supposed to.

I'm all for tightening the qualifications to participate. 200 posts plus a minimum time as a member - say 2 or 3 months. That will help weed out those who join, then post like crazy for a week to make the minimum.

And I know what it feels like to have teammates that can't quite get things together. Over the past few seasons I've had a teammate get his entry (a BIG buck) DQ'd for bad pics, another process his deer and forget to take pics, and still another that forgot his camera. I realize that that this is just a silly little contest and in the big scheme of things it really doesn't amount to much, but I have to wonder about folks that can't even get these simple rules right.

Yeah, I was thinking 150 to 200 posts too, and a member for 2 or 3 months before the contest is even posted. That's not asking much ;)

I don't mind at all adding someone who doesn't qualify with the number of posts, as long as one of our long-standing members can vouch for them, like members kids, or spouses or hunting buddies, who are members, but don't post much. Even that doesn't always work out though, from what I've seen this year.

Reading the rules isn't so hard. What bothers me is when someone doesn't follow the rules, and then gets mad at me, for saying sorry ...LOL  Most folks are pretty good about it though, and realize it was their booboo, not mine . If I let one person bend the rules, then what good are they..eh.

Yeah, I think we'll try something different next year, ...remind us...eh :D (I know you will :p)

Yeah a person can rack up 50 post in no time....Then never show up again.

I agree with tighten up the rules.

Maybe make a no-show list and ban them from future contests, or temporary ban for a couple of years.

Lets do this too.
